  • Just bought a cyclocross bike, so have been doing a few short rides.

Yesterday went around some parks in south london; peckham rye, dulwich, brockwell and hilly fields. Good fun but nothing technical and too many sun-worshippers.
Today rode out to elmer's end to do the 'three pimples' cx route, but realised when i got there that my garmin had decided to not load the ride.
Instead i found a small forest with some really nice steep and root covered sections and did lots of bombing about trying to jump branches and roots. only fell off once, must try harder.

  • Lots of niiiiice looking rides this weekend, you guys. Top work.

  • Down to Winchester this weekend to see the folks, did my standard figure eight loop through the Meon Valley.

I've been riding this roughly once a month all year and it's fascinating to see the change of the seasons writ large - from barren fields to tilled and seeded, then full bloom to the now partially harvested state that greeted us today.

The weather was stunning and the 45 miles of beautiful countryside really had me pondering "why do I live in London not here?"

Oh, and I bought my first tailored suit (not whilst riding, that would have been a bit much), so I need to go back to get it when it's ready so I'll do the ride again then.

  • following my cardiac arrest on oct 13 last year, I went out for the first time for a gentle ride around the block. 0.4 miles; it felt so good to be riding outdoors again. Not the longest ride I've ever done! But sure felt like one of the most satisfying.

  • ^made me smile happily

  • ^^Good on you mate... know where you're coming from.

  • I went up and down a road as quick as my legs would carry me. It wasn't fun but there was nice cake afterwards. Mmm.. cake.

  • PB eating cake and all?

  • ^^ Cheers guys........

  • Slovenia. great country. were in the central national park, 1 big lake to cycle round on mtb trails. lots of fire trail rides, but no roads to tops. so firetrailstook us from 500 - 1000 m above sea level. almost altitude (but not quite)
still great country and unregulated , there were people riding/ swimming/ kayaking wherevr they wanted. That. was the best bit about the place.
to start you off, check this bad boy out on my saddle-

    then alongside this lake

getting the flow on the mtb handling vibe

    all they way around

    this lake was heavenly

    listen to the silence...
up another Euro mountain like so many others

  • Looks wonderful Jmf.^

I'd love to go back to Slovenia, looks like you found some wonderful places there! I'd really like to do some kyacking and swimmimg there.

  • Posted this on the wrong thread on Wednesday night:

Me & mini-Skully at the top of Devil's Dyke this morning at 11. Had an awesome (really, literally in awe) ride up there this morning, from a campsite in Lewes, on my EG Bates and his Dave Yates tagalong. Yesterday from SE London to Blackberry Woods was quite a long ride, hard hard work! All that kit, 50 miles, a heavy as f bike, plus kid on the back who was not always pedalling that hard. Rode from DD to hove beach, had a swim in tropical sun, then train home.

About 75 miles in all. So knackered, a bit sunburned, pretty ecstatic.

  • Sounds very good Skully.

  • This is me riding out of Gap this Saturday two weeks ago. I'd had it with the Alps by then.

  • Wow, lovely photo of your gritty expression!

  • awesome stuff guys - great page

  • apart from ludwig of course

  • j.m.f. - Slovenia looks stunning

Skully - I think tagalongs are the main reason I'd have kids. Bravo.

fussballclub - Great scenery. Those poles look a bit hazardous on the descents though...

  • How would you look if a hurting rib had prevented you from climbing this bone shaker the Sunday before?

Definitely worth it. 8km of gravel. Loop is climb Finestre from Susa, then descent and climb up into Sestrie which is tarmac, then you can return to Susa via Cesana Torinese.

  • Awesome.

Riding from Siena-Grenoble in Oct so this will hopefully be part of my route over into France, quelle coincidence!
