  • Did this route with a friend on Thursday and went out alone to beat my time on Saturday morning. All the riding I'm gonna get in for this weekend sadly. Fun descents and 7% climbs not far from London.

  • Theydon Mount is always fun to go up or down.

  • Rode up to Salford to see friends.

The route was a bit bland, but racking up some miles was pleasant enough. Today's weary wander around Manchester provides gentle restorative fun.

Hope all the LELers are returning to abnormal.

  • Do this route quite regularly but this was the first time I'd ridden it fixed - plus I haven't ridden fixed for going on a couple of months. Legs and knees definitely knew about it, and it took about twelve minutes longer than on the road bike.

    Very enjoyable though.

^ Smoothest & most ironically-named road of the day: Gravelly Way.

  • Had a nice spin down to Camber Sands/Rye yesterday. The coastal road and approach was horrid with a strong SW wind.

  • This weekend I probably did less miles than most people on the forum owing to some kind of Prudential 'Get Commuters Out for a Hundy' charity ride. I am not disappoint.

  • This weekend I probably did less miles than most people on the forum.

For the first time in fricking ages I bet.

  • To be fair, last weekend involved a single lap of Richmond Park :)

  • Chasing a club run in Belgium on a fully loaded tandem at 30mph - YouTube

There was a bit of a delay in me switching from holiday mode to chase-the-pack mode :/

    So much win.

Reminds me of when a mate and me both had our kids in kiddie trailers, riding home from a local lake. Suddenly we find ourselves in the middle of a local road race.

My lad was furious when I could'nt hold on to the pace......

  • Finally got out on my new wheels. The tubs felt lovely.

Probably the worst day ever for a first run out of some 56mm deep wheels. Crazy gale force winds. Seemingly smashing you from the side, coming off the sea, then bouncing off a mountain and wacking you from the otherside should you dare to lean. Only took a few minutes to get used to though. They handled a lot better than my old ones.

Went out with the intention of doing a fast 20km, and a easier 18km roll home. The first 20km was a blast, fighting winds, short sharp climbs, and sharp turns.

Need to find the time to go out for longer soon.

  • Left the house on Saturday and headed over to Herne Hill for Grupetto Track Day. Just a couple miles later a 4x4 pulled out from a side street right in front of me, I've hit the side of it and faceplanted the windscreen, thankfully police car was just a 2 or 3 cars behind me. Few scratched to the bike, swollen knee and a punctured lower lip. After all formalities have been dealt with I made it to the velodrome, but was late for the dash sprints. Did get a 3rd place in points race and finished Roadman's 25 (89 laps) in top 10.

Next morning I had to wake up extra early to make it to the start of 2nd leg in Prudential Ride London Business Relay. Our team finished 2nd out of around 200 other teams.

Good weekend, apart of the crash.

  • Eventful. At least you weren't bored!

  • Top of ditchling beacon and back from Crystal palace. We were leaving at 7, I woke up at 7.15 and was riding up the hill 3 minutes later. First 20 miles I was still waking up, but we managed to do the whole 98 miles in 6 hours, which isn't bad for me. Perfect day, sunny, cool breeze, roads fairly quiet.

  • rode the mash around town,
    went dolphin spotting with j.m.f.,
    saw some.
    csb

  • Rode from east London to west London and back again a few times visiting people and generally pootling around. Utterly underwhelming by most measures, but after about a year of having my knee rebuilt, it's the most cycling I've done in a very long time and it felt rather good. Off to see the physio in the morning before work...

  • Managed 33 miles through pretty suffolk villages on saturday in the only time i had free between hangover and girlfriend duties. Rode from BSE to Cambridge and back yesterday evening. Quite a pleasant evening with the exception of a Bee flying into a helmet vent and putting the fear of god into me, followed by a wasp stinging me on the head a couple of miles later.

  • /\ top tip, stick a hairnet over your helmet, which I've done ever since being stung in similar circumstances. It looks slightly less ridiculous than you might think and keeps those pesky bees/wasps out of helmet vents

  • Is there a hairnet against getting stung by the speed of the club ride?

  • Had to abort the 40 mile round trip to Windsor on account of my riding partner's hangover. Managed 33 miles instead, so not a total blow out, and mounted a sustained attack on the rolling roads around Virginia Water.
Got abuse from a you couple in an Astra (possibly not an Astra, actually), and riding partner had a bottle thrown at him from a moving vehicle just outside of Walton-on-Thames. All in all, bit of a mixed bag...

  • From Rotterdam into the Belgium Ardennes, then down to Reims in France, went towards the border of Paris when I cycled to the coast at Normandy. Then from Normandy I followed the coastline back through Belgium into Holland.

    About 1000 miles.

Ok it was a bit more then a weekend but still :P

  • Had a very quite week after the sportive last weekend, popped out this afternoon with 'er indoors and a friend for a couple of hours South South-East in the lanes.

This is a route I really like as it's almost all small lanes which really feel like you are in the countryside, avoiding the higher speed roads in the area wherever possible.

  • 25 miles via wimbourne (the happiest town in u.k mofos)
    #countryroadtakemehome
helzanator drove off after to do powerman duathlon austria
    sadface

  • 222 kms 'smoke to the door,' london to the dorset coast with tokyo morvelo cc and others last night. Absolutely amazing ride, i was really suffering at times but kept going.

Sunrise and the first of the morning light bombing through the new forest was amazing.
Great to meet everyone on the ride and i really hope to do it next year. Thanks for the banana, sweets and water when i was going under.

  • Rode out to Ely for the first and last time on Saturday. Hadn't thought through how mind numbingly flat and boring the area would be to cycle through and riding directly into a headwind didnt help. Stopped at the cathedral for a banana and headed down towards Newmarket

my googlemapped route sent me along the river, over some fairly dodgy surfaces and straight into a roadblock

The route began to get more interesting as i headed south and some 'hills' around Newmarket were a breath of fresh air after rolling through the featureless wasteland that is the fens. The sun came out and I finished up at 68 miles having found quite a few little country pubs that i'll be looking to go visit as soon as i can

  • the great ship of the fens.
last time I was out there I saw a baby otter on the path, incompetently trying to hide.
    nice cows shot.
