Got to Cafe St Germain at around half eight with the humidity so high that water droplets were forming on my sunglasses.
Chilly sitting outside, chatting to the other Brixton Cycles riders, but we assured each other that the sun would come out soon.
Luckily, it did, and we had a very pleasant, fairly slow paced jaunt around the North Downs- 50 miles of lanes, a few climbs and some nice descents.

Couldn't do the Dynamo this year, but I rode back to town from Woodbridge today. I was hoping to see lots of super hardy there and backer's, but alas, I rode alone.
Bastard nice ride, mind. Slight tailwind for once made it reasonably pacey too...

Little bit of BMX at Platt Fields yesterday. Was all going fine until another rider jammed a brake lever about 2 inches into her inner thigh. Messy. Been told she's ok after 20 internal and a few external stitches though, thankfully.

Oh, and a few errands on the fixie-wixie with a basket in the sunshine.

Rented an MTB and skipped the field trip for the conference I'm at, electing to make my own. I figured I really should ride around the thing I'm studying.

One of the more unusual rides I've ever done, I guess.

Cool! That bottom image - is everything covered in ash?

Yep - I had to ride through that. My mouth is still gritty. Breathing was awful - I took a mask but, of course, trying to ride with a particulate mask is...

Fucking awesome scenery. Reminds me of when I was in Ishigaki.

Took the new bike up north for a bit of a spin. Someone gave me a cap, which was nice.

Just come back from a London-Holyhead trip with Fox. Amazing weather. Wales seen in sunshine. Took lots of pictures, but I think I like this one the best. It's near the top of Bwlch y Groes, which is apparently the highest bit of road in Wales. We took the easy way up from Lake Vyrnwy, and the steep way down.

HA!
And Corlis that sounds like fun, you got the route deets? I'd be interested to see. You been over to Ireland?
And unfortunately you missed the best descent, the road from the top of Bwlch down to Lake Bala (so basically the only other way you can go, I think its called Hellfire Pass) is one of my favourite-ist bits of road in the whole world. 20 minutes of descending heaven, assuming you dodge the sheep.

Unfortunately I only had a week off, so going on to Ireland wasn't an option! Would have loved to.
Route:
Day 1
(Because my folks live near Leamington)
Day 2
Day 3
(Unfortunately I cocked up here, it was meant to be this route
and the route we did was the shorter backup, but I managed to not copy the longer route onto my Garmin somehow and didn't feel confident about navigating the other route from memory. Fail. Is this Hellfire Pass the descent down to Bala or Llanuwchlynn?)
Day 5
(we had a rest day on the beach on day 4 and just rode from Dolgellau to Harlech). It was amazing, the best riding I've done, and I'd do it again tomorrow if I could. Can't recommend the Long Mynd and Snowdonia enough, they're incredibly beautiful.

This was the top of the steep way down, that first turn was a little vertigo inducing!

Excellent work, some lovely bit of countryside there and you've seen it at its most lovely at this time of year. In fact managing a few days without rain is an achievement in itself.
Yeah the original route you had for day 3 included hellfire pass down to Bala/Llanuwchlynn (try saying that without your teeth in). Still its pretty great all round there, and this time of year its probably the busiest it gets, go slightly off season and you'll have it mostly to yourself.
My folks live in Adfa, outside Llanfair Caereinion so if you want to go back ever I can try arrange some camping in the garden and bbq action.
And I assume you took gears, if you both managed all that fixed you are indeed proper mountain goats. Chapeau regardless, makes me want to go riding there now.

Yep, the weather was lovely, all the time, sun sun sun. We did realise how lucky that was! A few days it was so hot the tarmac started melting and stuck to our tyres, and we drank about half of Lake Vyrnwy to keep hydrated, but it was all good.
I for one would love to go back and do Hellfire Pass, with hindsight I should have just navigated it from memory but I was a bit worried about us getting lost up an 1800ft high mountain and rescued by Prince William in a Sea King.
And yes, gears! No way I could have done that fixed, I think I just reached 25k of climbing for the week...

Any special reason for the cap?

Need to write up this years 18 day tandem jaunt into Bavaria and back (including gatecrashing a Belgian road race and legitimately racing a TT) before the memories fade :/

I had a go at the route for the Midland Super Grimpeur 300
, originally mentioned by Greenbank.
I liked the spread of difficulty through the day (easy start, tricky middle, easy end), with the toughest chunk being the 30 miles after Holmfirth. 4800m total ascent, suggests Garmin.
I'd recommend the route, it was great fun to ride.
Just noticed this. Chapeau.
Have promised to revisit that route with 63" fixed one day. Not looking forward to it though. Need to shed 12kg before then too.

chose to forego the DD last weekend to put in a few miles in TdF territory with an old buddy.
three days riding in and around the Yorkshire Dales. just under 200 miles in the legs and a shitload of climbing. rode with a computer on my bike for the first time in three years. still couldn't break the 50 mph mark, managing only a measly 47.1 off Fleet Moss down into Hawes.
breathtaking area to roll in and with the tour and G on tap back at our base at the Black Horse in Grassington couldn't ask for a better weekend in the saddle.
and if you are planning on being there for the tour next year get booking now.

^Nicely done. Fleet Moss to Hawes is a first class stretch of road.
I decided to battle through the hangover I acquired after my brother's 21st last night and get on the bike for a couple of hours. I made it 1.4 miles up the road and up the 1st hill and painted a hedge a nice shade of lager. Back to bed I think!
