    link? must have missed that

  • Turbo session followed by 3hr ride into Surrey followed by some beers at a local rugby match. Yesterday was another ride around the fairly moderate Quest reliability course.

There is no snow in the Chilterns and I actually had bare arms and legs. Holy motherfucking shit!

Still too lazy to prep. the TT bike for use.

  • ^ thanks for this.

wow sounds like a really tough ride, and to go on and do a marathon afterwards?1 wow!

  • Made my lapsed ex-ironman now lazy oik tri-buddy do hill reps round Forest Hill and Crystal Palace for a couple of hours.

I had to ride up to collect him from Maida Vale because he's a wuss with no sense of direction and the trains weren't running. During an ascent of the mighty Liphook Crescent he threw a banana skin in someone's garden, because in addition to being a wuss with no sense of direction he's also in inconsiderate weirdo. A neighbour shouted at me. Thanks.

After all that I made us coffee and Mrs Dooks made us lunch. We lay on the lawn in the sunshine till it got too cold. I made him put his other banana skin in the compost. Then he got a cab home because he's a wuss with no sense of direction.

My legs are fine today but somehow I managed to crick my neck using the track pump before the ride, suffered though it and am now super stuff.

    Because I'm a wuss and a div.

  • Not the weekend but I had a day off today so went for a little spin.
Pooface is rubbish and bailed and after telling Apollo I was going to leave at 10, he sent me a text at 10 past saying he was getting ready, then at 20 past asking if I had left. Of course by that point I was spinning up Highgate Hill and wishing there was a flatter route out of town.
Met Weather says it was 16mph constant wind with 30mph gusts. It was a struggle to ride in a straight line for most of it and the wind would change direction every other minute. Down some of the steep descents I could barely coast for the headwind. But those ones that were in a wind-lull made it all worth it. When the wind died down I felt really strong and could tackle the hills in higher gears than I had before but those opportunities were few and far between.
I hadn't ridden this route before. Tommm send me the GPX file for it. The loop at the top was nice, but the roads to and from it were a bit horrible. I'm going to edit those parts before cycling it again.

  • Is there a nicer way out?

I always just followed Butters. Nasty roads but a couple of good climbs to get you in the mood.

  • ^^ Right. 50 miles should from where you are whether ride in North or East always leave you 30 miles in lanes. South it will take you to Crystal Palace.

Has anyone ever been so far as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

  • Pooface is rubbish and bailed

I bet I could have knocked you over with a feather :)

  • This weekend, in between bouts of:

    (a) scaring myself shitless with a huge angle grinder,

    (b) clearing up the crap that got everywhere when I used the angle grinder,

    (c) hitting some concrete with a small hammer (via a chisel) in the hope that it would break up with less risk to life and limb than using the angle grinder,

    (d) hitting my left thumb rather than the chisel,

    (e) buying two chickens (oven ready rather than pet);

    (f) then being told that of course we can't have our friends round on Sunday because we're going to listen to a concert that son #2 is singing in,

I got two bikes out of the shed. One was my Dave Lloyd, the other was son #2's beautiful little Orbit road bike with 650c wheels. I pumped up the tyres and we were about to set off for a ride together when there was a sudden change of heart. Son #2 really didn't want to go for a ride. So I rode his bike half way up the garden, and wheeled it the rest of the way to the shed.

    That was my weekend ride.

A performance worthy of any TNRC-er

  • I went for no ride at the weekend. But I did spend the warmest day of the year so far plotting a new route home from the wilds of East Sussex, after riding there from the big poosmoke last week. Riding home this morning I was rewarded with some quiet lanes and this view of a fair bit of Kent:

The picture doesn't really do it justice.

I haven't really been on the bike for ages, so just to make things interesting I took my 'new' tourer. It's fucking heavy and I was slow. Noticeably slower, that is. It was still a lot of fun though. I nearly ran over a rabbit coming down Knatt's Valley.

  • Wau

  • yeah great pics, serious riders.

  • awesome

  • Nice!

  • Living the dream.

  • Thanks all. Yeah it was a good weekend. Stag do actually. All my mates I grew up with we're snowboarding for a long weekend and I haven't done that in about 8 years since we've had kids. But I didn't want to miss out on the weekend so my brother and I decided to go along and take the bikes instead. Based in Morzine we were very lucky with the weather and managed 3 1/2 days of unbelievably good riding. The main road to Avoriaz was clear so we rode that a couple of times and although the Joux Plane and Joux Verte weren't passable (still ski runs for the upper sections) there was still plenty of climbing challenges on offer. The temps were in the mid twenties and the sun was plentiful.

The boarders had good snow and we had incredible riding conditions. Win win. There were no other riders to be seen on the cols or mountains but there were a few locals on the flats in the valleys in Saturday and Sunday. It felt like the med on the lower slopes and yet there was 9ft of snow banked on the roads in some places on the cols and in the ski resorts. Loved it.

  • Lovely pictures. Speaking as a photographic dunce what's that effect called you've got of squeezing a big panorama into one wide shot (final 5 pics) called or is it a special lens?

  • I'm also a photographic dunce. The pics are taken using the "panorama" option on my iPhone. I guess they're panoramic views? It's very clever and easy to do. Tick the panarama option, press the button to take a pic and sweep the phone around the scene. Not sure of other phones do the same.

  • Stunning day in the hertfordshire countryside today, nothing on those pictures but best we've seen here for a while. Only slight upset was a minor t boning of a car, everyone intact so no damage done in the end. Route for those that care..

heart rate data seems to be off, had some issues with it, anybody experienced something similar with the garmin monitor?

  • Polar HRMs would often max out when you rode anywhere near high voltage - trams tracks, big overhead powerlines, etc.

If it reads as if you're dead then it's usually the chest strap failing to read properly. Wipe some spit on the sensors and your chest. You can get special gel for this but I prefer the porno methods.
