Ladbroke Grove to Windsor, but not back. Rear inner tube burst riding back, carrying no spare. Thanks to a kind lady in a convertible BMW and a train/tube journey, got home eventually. So frustrating not finishing a ride.

Not strictly weekend rides, but this seems like the best place for them. They were the lead up to an extremely pleasant Saturday in Edinburgh (tenuous link), during which the only cycling took place between hotel and train station.
Thursday, Harrogate to Hexam: The route started with a lot of intricate ups and downs through twisty county lanes before heading into the Pennines, which were incredible. I'll be going back to do this one without panniers, at some point. It was fucking brilliant.
Friday, Hexam to Edinburgh: Thanks to appalling weather, what should have been a straightforward final leg through a lovely national park was something of a struggle. It pissed it down from 7:00 until noon, making the journey through Kielder feel like I was approaching the edge of the earth. The afternoon was bright, but a wind going south turned the journey going north from relaxing downhill spin to arduous grind. It was one of those jaunts the enjoyment of which is only discovered after a hot bath and a change of clothes.
Monday Wednesday was London to Harrogate, and wasn't as interesting.

What a beautiful afternoon... just rode out from Brixton and pootled around Reigate/Dorking for a few hours - no rain, no wind, lovely warm light, legs and machine all working good - love days like that...

some good distances right there ^^nice one.
Was supposed to go through kielder spring 2009 for a J.Turrell exhibition, and to have a good look around, didnt make it unfortunately, still high on the to do list,
supposed to be the place with the least light pollution in the U.K and had a major sky observatory there.
first Cyclo -x of the season down here for Wessex league, went along to support Poole Wheelers, came 12/41 in the vets cat, not bad for a punter on a hub geared 29er.
Really had a lot of fun on the course, shredded it through the technical sections faster than the 700c bikers, and kept a good spin rate up for the 45 min race.
Seeing guys racing on the drops in the forest was plain wrong though,
finished off riding back past Wimbourne to see U.F.D,
then Poole and sauna, yoga by the harbour in the sun, eat everything in the house,
fuck me what a perfect day.what you been up to??

Track fun and hurty legs yesterday and 85 miles (took a wrong turn, back to start and re-started) round the Circuit of Kent today, about 19.5mph average, really good ride and weekend.

Track yesterday (kind of lost interest after heats); today, 85 miles, wind, 'leg stretcher', 2nd cat roadies in late season peak form*, 20mph average, 65 miles @ 23.5mph average, gurn grotto.

• #511
gurn grotto yeah? worse than pain cave then... you know what they say,
'miles in the legs' -
• #512
It wasn't too bad really. Just the requisite rough patch around the halfway mark. Maybe 'grimace grove' from time to time.

Went for a nice ride in the South Downs with my dad today, only managed 45 miles though as he struggles with the hills after a while. Lovely and sunny and lots of friendly people on club runs.
Also, saw FIVE red kites all flying around together, must have been a family. Those birds are enormous. Not my photo unfortunately. Amazing animals.

Picture courtesey of my 6 year old. I was going up hill.
IoM E2E challenge. 75kOfficial time 5.44
My computer 5.27661 out of 993 finishers (1347 starters).
Too many people. Had to walk lots that I ride regularly, cracking day 25mph head/side wind blue skies. The torrential rain over the past few days didn't help. Lots of mud, and lots of verywet slippery technical climbs.
Not my idea of a good day out. would prefer to be out with 2 or 3 mates.
Hay ho, more rum and soon to bed.

good effort! -

51 miles Glasgow to Edinburgh for Pedal for Scotland today.....perfect weather, great ride, 9000 people. Raised £221 for Maggies Cancer Centres too. Top day. And so glad I made decision to put my Brooks B17 Narrow on bike at last moment, rather then race saddle......
3h 15m cycling time plus 2 x 20 min stops. A few people riding it fixed.....

I did fuck all. As usual.

Saw a few of you lot today at the section by the Hop Farm (dual carriageway, you had to turn left onto in, then 180 on yourself at the next roundabout). The CoK is a nice ride, done it a few times but put off now by the pricey, err, price. And especially as I can ride those roads for free. Yes I know it's for charity, I have raised funds in the past for one of the beneficiaries.
Anyway, I did fuck all. As usual.

48 miles round trip. 1280m up (then, surprisingly, the same back down). felt like a lot more than the 2200 kcal my HR monitor told me.
the view at the top looked a little like the picture below. although yesterday was cloudier than in this picture (taken two weeks earlier), and it was positively torrential by the time i got halfway back down.
good thing the balinese are a friendly bunch, and will welcome you on to their porch until the rain passes... -

Same here. Had planned an outing yesterday, while the missus met her friends for lunch. But her lunch got canned, so my company duties were expected. Took her to Herne Hill and spent a pleasant hour watching the races in the Sept sun.
Not quite as nice as what shambolic got up to though!
:-)
