Sunday was last chance to have a decent ride before I tackle the Pearson 150 sportive this coming Sunday.
So what I did was get up late, blow my legs up trying to get to the station on time, miss the train to the meeting point, ride to effingham, cut the route short then toil round on my own in one of my worst 'performances' ever.
Then I had to wait 50 minutes for a train home.
Let's hope next weekend goes a bit better...

Lovely pootle with lardlady from Streatham to Brick Lane, and back again, taking all the LCN winding routes. All a matter of building up the miles, then she can have a go at a L-B.

Me, Nes, Punkture and Mechamorgan, 60 miles in the Peak District including the long drag up Snake Pass from the Yorkshire side. Brutal heat = 4 hours riding time, 4 hours in a cafe and a pub.

Something over 5000m of climbing in 2 days in Italy. The first day with temps hovering around 30 and very little shade was definitely the hardest! Such beautiful roads though...almost all smooth and so very, very quiet.

@"that is all", you rode today, there was a beginning, a middle and an end, and at some point I imagine youre heart got started, that is all that matters.
I fitted a round trip stalbans- bedford -stalbans in sat- sun between seeing friends.
So good out in the countryside at present, lanes stuffed with greenery, birds, nature and all that shit.
Loving it. -

a couple of
gentleshort rides in e.sussex around the parentals place on my brothers road bike...lots of hills, almost no flat stuff - got to the highest point in sussex by brightling beacon on sat and sunday. Sat was a beautiful day. 25 miles in all - but many hills which are like speaking a foreign language to me! muchos fun for a singles ride... -

our modest 50 mile training ride profile from yesterday out from beaconsfield towards marlow and hambledon, henley, burnham beeches and back.. some stunning views across the thames valley, despite the wind, cool weather and a couple of ill riders in the group..
hambledon a great break/stop for tea and possibly best flapjacks in christendom..

One of my clubmates has delayed the start of his racing season until June. As a result he is bursting with energy and speed which he would normally have dissipated by racing.
He had to go to work in the afternoon, so he had to restrict his Sunday morning ride to about 70 miles.
I was in his little group (eight in total) which went from Staines to Stokenchurch (a high point of the Chilterns) and back. You might have noticed there was quite a strong north west wind yesterday, in other words a head wind on the outwards trip. My abovementioned clubmate stayed on the front and on the big ring for the whole day, wearing out the rest of us one by one at his side. I managed about 5 miles before finessing my way to the back at a junction, but I felt I'd done enough.
The roughly 30 miles uphill and into the wind took about an hour and three quarters, after that it was an easy but fast descent to Henley where five of us, including myself, stopped in the cafe and subsequently rode back to Staines at a modest pace.
I'd done about 65 miles. The previous day I'd spent some time preparing a bike for the forum Richmond - Oxford ride and I had considered using it yesterday. In the end I decided against it and took my ancient training bike with a 16 - 22 block; I have to admit it would have been impossible for me to do that ride, in that group, on fixed.
I foresee a successful second half of the season for my friend.

Feeling your pain!
I did the Castle Ride 100 yesterday with less climbing but more than enough for my legs. A superbly organised ride only marred by an accident involving a female rider and a car. The rider was airlifted to hospital and fingers crossed for a positive outcome.

The route took in TNRC Exedown Hill which was a plus as I'd rode that last Tuesday.
105 miles total and average 15 mph.
