A tough solo ride on 69.6" fixed. There's something about the way the roads roll together round these parts that is particularly testing. Little respite.
My spare glasses case bumped out of my pocket on a descent; didn't open, but one snapped pair of old specs inside :(

Harp Hilly 100 today. First long ride back after being fucking sick as bro for two weeks. It was slow. It doesn't matter because it was done - that's what matters.

Good work.
Was it a snotty nightmare?

I did HHH as well. Biggest ride since my long hiatus. Great route and organisation. I suffered in the second half due to inadequate pre-fuelling (and being pathetic)

Was it a snotty nightmare?Only for those behind me. :)
Nah, I started pretty late so most people had gone already so no issues.

comparatively ^ few fixed miles too for me, only local hills but want to get strong enough to breeze I.O.W, and have the aerobic side smooth/regulated before track league starts for those short kicks that you need.

did the hell of ashdown route again on saturday. didn't see that many cyclists out compared to a few weeks back. the only ones i saw were a few groups going past me which led me to question whether i was doing it the easier way or harder?
anyway some more miles in the bin -

I got that 'am I going the wrong way' feeling yesterday, going past what turned out to be hordes of Harp Hilly Hundreders.
I think difficulty (ignoring wind, bike type, blah blah) tends to be a case of back to back undulations, seeing as we don't have looooong climbs. I find Kent and Surrey pretty easy unless you specifically loop round a small area, whereas Herts/Bucks/Sussex have shorter but more constantly occurring drags and climbs however you plot your route. Essex can be like that too, but only if gone at full pelt.
That's how it seems in the home counties at least.

Just take a big handfull of dates.
They're pure glucose.About equal amounts of fructose and glucose actually but who's counting. There's a food thread somewhere on here.
Friday night and monday morning rides only this weekend. The dry weather is great and making squeezing rides in here and their quicker/easier and fun.

had 2.5 hours to get a ride in with a pal so we did an experimental route and hit it fast and maintained the intensity throughout (since we didn't have the two slower riders we often ride with, which leads to soft-pedalling and flay out stopping and waiting) so the legs felt a bit sore later on. Spring finally showing a couple of signs of arriving, although we were anticipating a sunny ride and were denied it. Hopefully the last time my feet feel like blocks of ice for a while.
Although I'm not counting on it

I flew to Antwerp today early doors, the Flemish landscape criss crossed with country lanes looked so inviting below....sun was out, spring had arrived. Unlike four weeks ago, total white out and bleak, could have been good, minus 5 though.

45 miles from Exeter to Holsworthy in North Devon on Friday and the reverse on Monday. Not the greatest route out for fixed, the A roads on the way back were a much better ride, barely any traffic on a weekday and the gradients far more amenable to my weak legs.
Some truly fucking great views around Dartmoor though and the descent into Dunsford after the climb out of Moretonhampstead was amazing. Three miles of fairly twisty wooded lanes could easily make the road pron thread.

the climb out of Moretonhampstead was amazing.
yes i've done that a few times, and will second that it's a great ride round there. tough mind!

yeah i'd agree with this too, but not the bit about kent and surrey being particularly easy! i always wonder why my average speed going round herts isn't higher but seem to forget the long drags where i can't really get about 14-15mph!

After trying Boyland road on the way out I'd take that climb any day! But for the hill-philes around here I would suggest checking it out...

Love England, spoilt for choice.
