  • Sounds good man^^ Excluding the cranberry thing!

So many miserable cunts out. I always wave or say hello, I'm a loser and I like to be cheery. Got about 4 back out of 40.

  • I am still on my ride; I'm trying to regain the feeling in my feet with a coffee in a petrol station off the a24. I sort of wish I'd looked at the weather forecast and realised it was going to sleet/snow all day in Sussex/Surrey. No matter! Should easily cover a century if I make it home without freezing.

  • You are nails TB. That is all.

  • You say that, but I nearly bailed at Billingshurst after a soul destroying hilly 10 mile diversion and now I am secretly hoping someone will steal my unlocked bike so I don't have to ride home :D

  • Also, this is the abridged version. Was meant to be 160 miles. Ah well.

  • ^As stated, nails. 160 mi in a day? Ridiculousness.

  • Love is...
Being nagged to go for a proper ride today, getting towed up box hill in the snow, eating fine polish doughnuts with crap coffee, getting lost at ashstead, destroying legs and egos, face and legs caked in Surrey mud off-road detour, tasting the cobham mouthwash, then given a copy of chasing legends on DVD..

What was suppose to be a recovery ride from noravirus, ended up being a 70 mile suffer fest. I feel epic, need to sleep now.. Thanx

PS I haven't decided whether love is ironic or iconic..

  • doffs of the cap to riders out today where ever you are.
this is how the New forest looks, look at this Beech, real grandaddy,
only rode 15 k ish round to get to a running event, still always better adventuring outdoors than any gym option.

  • I sort of wish I'd looked at the weather forecast...

Ditto, although I'm sure when I looked last night it said 5°c, dry and cloudy. So, imagine my surprise when, after setting off in a wool jersey and without overshoes, it progressed from drizzling, to raining, to sleeting, to snowing, in quick succession.

The coup de grâce was turning a corner to find a 100 yard stretch of flooded road and quickly deciding that it would probably only be 'rim deep' and ploughing on... 20 yards later my bottom bracket was submerged and I had no option but to repeatedly plunge one foot after the other into the icy brown water to get to the other side.

I was 40miles from home at this stage - by the time I got back my feet were so painfully cold I had to take my first ever 'sit-down' shower.*

    *it was...

  • DAY 3 - FIREFLIES TOUR 2010 - YouTube

Being on box hill today reminded me of the hardest day on a bike, ever.

  • Took the MTB out today and put in around 25 miles.
Had great fun went out east to around Victoria park area then rode home, really awesome and really getting used to not being clipless.

  • Triple threat today: strong wind, constant driving rain and cold with it. There is no such thing as waterproof overshoes is there? At the end of the ride I was squelching. We went for climbing rather than distance and I managed to clear a local hill from a direction I have never managed to before so that was a win, then failed on the next with was shorter but much stabbier, if that is a word.

Panic when I got to my bike: chain was showing rust so major fail for not lubing it after I cleaned it last weekend. Drivetrain problems continued as it refused to go into the little ring. Adjusting the front mech with fogged up glasses is no fun. Think a thorough service is due. I almost turtled as I pushed off from a junction up hill, but recovered, then had to negotiate lanes awash with run off and gravel. Middle section was a run along a ridge totally exposed so ended up getting very cold, then some harzardous up and downs with standing water in the dip, dodgy when cars are coming the other way and you both want the middle of the road.

Anyway did some suffering. It wasn't always fun but proud I went out anyway. Bring on the spring!

  • Thinking of trying doggy poo bags around the toes next time

  • Lazy swim, sauna and Swedish massage, after epic ride yesterday..
So glad I'm not out there today.

  • If you want dry feet use cling film. It's the only way.

  • ^
Could have done with that today.

My resolution to do a 100Km fixed ride every month dragged me out of bed this morning to ride my club's 102Km audax. Pretty atrocious conditions, but quite nice to be out really. 48x17 was feeling a little bit big towards the end, 48x18 would probably have been better. Oh, and it was my first time with a 25c on the back which proved very comfortable.

  • Smashed it out to Windsor today, on the front most of the way in TT mode. Dragged myself home, was in a complete state by the time I got back, couldn't feel a thing for the last hour, couldn't even brake - had to sit in the shower for 45 mins just to let my body come back to life.

Sometimes I wonder about this cycling stuff.

  • Kudos to all of you out there today. We saw the forecast midweek and switched to Saturday. You loons!

  • Made a feeble effort today, managed the ride to Regents, and one lap before I gave in and went for coffee and then to Tokyo Fixed for some overshoes and new brakepads then rode home.

Did this route to Cambridge after it came recommended. Highlights were going through some of the really lovely old Hertfordshire villages. Cold but we seemed to get away without getting wet at all.

I don't mind the wet so much as the wet and cold bit. Cling film around the boots? May try it next time although I rarely that prepared. Only realised how wet we were going to by the other side of the first hill. Weather like that makes you long for the climbs and dread the descents.

    Have some rep for reassurance
