  • lovely view! Im in poole every other weekend lately, really starting to enjoy it

  • what bit? mtb? road? sandbanks route and seaside?

  • student halls. gf just moved there ;D

  • so i guess you'd call it 'dirt'

  • oh yeah, just near railover bridge or up towards me at the brilliantly named Bournemouth University-- in Poole......

  • near the holiday inn?

  • holy shit

  • wot no weekend riding ?

Yes! - 90km in -5 degrees, oh what a joy

  • ...

    You just fell off, right?

  • Typing on my phone, sorry!

Last night I taught the girlfriend how to ride clipless. Cue a discussion about karma, "everybody falls", discussion of punctures, etc. General feeling was that such 'jinxes' are bullshit.

Wanted to do an easy ride today - I'm not feeling 100% because of wisdom tooth pain and I've been riding a lot recently. GF was likewise because it was her first clipless ride. Guy I put in charge of leading the ride took us on a 95km route with 1800m of climbing. WAC.

    Highlights included:

    • GF's clipless fall (into a comedy huge pile of leaves)
    • being led onto 5km of rocky, wet mountain bike trail... with racing slicks on a road bike (we all had roadies...)
    • a puncture (see above)
    • a considerable amount of walking
    • a considerable amount of getting very cold
    • a guy wailing on a full drum kit by the side of the road way up in the mountains
    • so many free oranges

Selling bike, never riding again, etc...

  • Mooore hot chocolate after the CX race

  • liking the Swedish? element on this thread- keep up the toughside

  • Needs more London rides though!

Lanes (or much further than zone six) didn't really seem like a good idea so went for a ride up the Lea Valley with the other half.

Decided to take my three speed as it has wider tyres, no foot retention and weighs a tonne. On the slidey slopes next to the canal fixed would probably have been preferable though.

Past Tottenham Hale there was proper white snow in large quantities and the canal was frozen solid.

There were some ridiculously friendly herons competing with the pigeons for bird food put out by local residents, I've never been so close to a heron before.

Speaking of Sweden, as we were in the area it would have been rude not to...

  • ^Kjöttbollar!

  • Oxford, earlier this month:

  • I still bloody love that Cross Check

  • Winter Hill - Winter Tyre

  • Which tyres are these?

  • Winter Hill looks down on Marlow, Bernie's last Oxford ride went over it.

It appears there was not a great deal of riding done last weekend. I did have to steel myself to go out of the front door, but once out I found it was a rewarding time to be on my bike.

The 'risk assessment' culture makes it difficult to organise an event that involves any kind of group of riders, but in fact I'd say last weekend was actually safer than normal - simply because there was so little traffic.

The attached picture is of someone who is indifferent to health and safety.

  • Which tyres are these?

I had to go out to the shed to look. The tyre says 'Ritchey speedmax cross 35 x 700'

The back tyre is a Schwalbe Marathon.

Between them they make an otherwise fairly lively machine feel like a sluggish roadster, but I did manage to get home without falling off.

  • Lovely 3xbrakeless airstrip ride again - the safest place on Earth.

It's a ruse, they're actually complete bastards. I've seen them kill pigeons and other small birds in the past.

  • The shoes I was wearing on Sunday in the snow have now died.

  • Died or dried?
