Only a short 16 miles for me this weekend, what's important to me though was they are the first 15 miles I've road for a long long time without any knee pain, all because I saw the physio/bike fit man on Saturday. Hopefully this will be the end of my stint with knee pain and I can work on building up my audax distance again.

I had considered your ride, but I think it's slightly beyond me at this point in the year. I was very tempted though. I haven't really logged enough miles this winter to be in shape for something like that. Always next week.
Good to hear you take it ride by ride; just sayin as we could groupsave if you were around.

I did the Cheltenham New Flyer 200k yesterday with gears.
Memorable moments include:
- Arriving at the foggy scene of a bad motorcycle accident near Lechlade-on-Thames before the emergency services.
- Riding the River Coln valley on my own in the morning mist.
- Racing travellers in their pony carts (mininature ponies are more rouleur than puncheur it seems).
- Taking a leak (way too much coffee) and admiring the White Horse of Wiltshire.

Nice little spin out to highbeech and back with Photoben this morning. Road closed due to an earlier accident and Ben's need to get to work made us cut it shorter than we'd have liked but hey ho.
Followed a rather nice bunch of chaps on some serious machines out of town(which was handy as it's been a while and I couldn't remember the way).
Perfect morning for it. -

Through-and-off to Windsor and back, with a (non-)coffee stop (bloody Lent). Felt good, weather was lovely and some good miles on the clock. Happy

My sister has been saying for a while she'd like to ride the Dunwich Dynamo this year since I spoke to her about the last one.
This means we've been riding together on the weekends to help her build up her mileage, not necessary speed since she just wants to finish the DD.
This weekends ride;

This weekend coming we're going to aim for 55 (maybe 60) miles and increase this by a further 10 miles each week.
These rides are also great for me as recovery rides for my knees.

Saturday was my virgin ride, down to Box hill and back through Chobham, 60 miles in 4 hours rolling. Superb pub lunch and very welcome beer at Richmond Terrace to see the sunset...

Lovely ~50 round Hampshires finest, including a trip up South Harting which is a real grind, my compact double just doesn't go low enough to keep it spinning...
Good prep for a trip round the IoW next weekend.

75 miler, into Epping and then deeper into Essex. Beautiful warm spring day, no base layer required for the first time in months. The only traffic seemed to be other cyclists, including a near pensionable aged pedaller who destroyed me and my rolling partner Ben on Toot Hill. Chapeau sir! Somewhat of an anti climax on the way home when Ben's out-of-place-on-his-new 'nago stem made a worryingly loud 'clunk', resulting in the wobbliest of wobbly handlebars. Chaperoned him to the train station and rolled back solo. Despite missing my post ride pint due to my lone wolf status, a top ride. Looking forward to having Wrongcog back in the saddle soon, thinking of midweek rides as soon as that darn clock goes forward.

Set off up gipsy hill at 4pm, about 2hrs later than planned. Big red sun hanging low in the sky warming my right shoulder, mist in the valley below Caterham. Orange light on the church tower. Took a wrong turn down a deteriorating bridleway, picked my way through the cold bright woods round boulders and ruts on my new carbon rims, finally found a good road south and pegged it down to make turners hill before dark. Numb toes in the dusk on the seemingly endless descent, cant see the road in the oncoming headlights, warmed up climbing ditchling beacon and reached the top with orion looking down at me, still an electric blue sky to the west. Hit 45mph down into brighton. Smoked a fag on the beach and threw stones at the sea.

I'm planning on riding up there with a one man tent and my paints sometime in june. I picked whitby as a destination to ride to purely through having memories of being a fifteen year old goth there 15 years ago...

Took a link out of chain, fitted smaller cog and new tyres to track bike.
Few kilos after was satisfied it all meshed together and tensioned sweetly.
The track urged me faster today. Let's hope I can do justice to a bigger gear.
2 weeks til race season starts. -

spin out to kettlewell from bishops thornton / harrogate in the yorkshire dales yesterday, chasing rain clouds and hills, the landscape never disappoints.. general lucifer produced bottles of guiness and world famous pork pies of bentleys, pudsey, spotting lapwings, herons and a host of ornithological delights, while niall provided commentary of all the places and history throughout the ride. we even stopped to see john pitcher legendary mountain bike and 29er to tweek my rear mech.. epic days riding.. 65 miles in all.. later dining at betty's munching on fine food and fat rascals.. followed by local beers in town
shame to return to the bright lights shit city known as london..

Was due to meet some friends for a bit of a walk in the Peaks so decided to roll out on the fixed and meet the gf there. Pootled up Owler Bar out of town and spun down to Baslow. Hopped over the little hill to Chatsworth and stopped to admire the herds of sheep and deer being brought out from winter housing before rolling down through Beeley and Rowsley before heading up Alport Dale to Yougreave and over a few small lumps to Middleton. Chuffed with a good route choice and a pleasant little warm up before a walk.
Alas the gf called to let me know I was in the wrong Middleton and I was left with some hurried dale-hopping through Elton, wrecking my legs, a hard spin down the A road toward Cromford which turned my legs to jelly and a painful trudge up to the other Middleton and then a steep climb to Middleton Top. Legs are now completely fuckered and all because I'm too stupid to pay attention. My only solace is that had I taken the route I should have done I would have been left with finishing the ride with a 14% hack up Cromford Hill. Bad enough on gears.
