  • No SS off-road malarky yet?

  • Waiting for a headset press to be returned.

Times are hard and I've had to take a second job, I can afford bike bits but no time to actually ride them. Ho fucking hum.

  • Nothing, again.

    #needtoupmygame

+1 so much going on at the moment. This Saturday looks good for a good 70 miles though, unless we get that snow at the end of the week I've heard about. I think a good day out on the bike will clear my head no end.

  • Gonna go up Parbold hill this weekend. Hello 14% inclines.

  • pfft,

    big ring

  • Silly o'clock start to head to Llandegla...

  • Nothing like the wind to make you feel pro only to turn round and then be utterly destroyed. A nice and easy 40 km followed by 20 km of 80 kph headwinds and an average speed of 20 kph.

  • +1

Went pretty hard in a group of 6 on a fairly flat 30 miles. There were a couple of cat 3 racers in the group so I was pleased I kept up.

    Average speed...

    20mph.

    LoL.

  • And then I fell off (and landed on my chin) on the way back.

  • Llandegla done. Roulette runs, 1 red, 1 black (first for me do pleased).

  • p.s. brutal winds on the de-forested hill tops, must've made for interesting group riding on the road club runs. Now not got that to deal with tomorrow #wimpedout

Couldn't agree more. Was cycling on the Norfolk coast today brutal head winds. To make matters worse I booked on the way home. Struggled to keep the bike up right, horrible feeling and the first time I've bonked. Don't want that to happen again.

  • Headwinds all the way to Windsor on Saturday - made for a good little 2-up, followed by a sprint out of the Great Park into the centre with the winds at our backs which was joyous. Tailwinds on the way home too, so all in all a lovely little 70-odd-miler with the added benefit of a tasty flat white under the outdoor heaters in Windsor [ame]http://connect.garmin.com/activity/131017562[/ame]#

Took the girlfriend out into Surrey on Sunday for her first taste of the hills - she got up Coombe Hill, Crocknorth Road and Box Hill without walking and with her knee still sore after being knocked off. Impressed, although less impressed with some of the snark exhibited by some of the Kingston Wheelers we came accross on the road - learn some manners and road etiquette, you lot!

  • I've completely failed to do any proper riding since Dungeness in October due to illness, commitments, alcohol and so on. So I took a day off today and went for a ride on my fixie skidder. I now feel like a proper cyclist again :)

Slightly odd choice of route was because I wanted to go to Poppy's tea room in Thaxted (best tea room in Essex, 2011/12 - they have the award proudly on display) before it closes in mid-December, and I had a free First Capital Connect ticket.

I don't really recommend the last ten miles of this route, it was boring and there were too many cars, but it meant I could get back to London for free.

  • Why is that ^ not embedding?

  • Not a proper cyclist.

  • o_o

  • Why is that ^ not embedding?
You have linked to the trip, rather than the route. If you Map a route and log it as a ride at the same time then all of the links to that route redirect to that trip. Which I imagine is good for some people, but I find quite annoying.
If you hover over the link to the route in RWGPS you can see what the URL should be and update your post manually (something like www.ridewithgps.com/routes/12345).
I always log rides separately to routes to avoid this "feature".

  • Ah, this is because this is the first time I've recorded my travels with the GPS in my phone. Thanks for that, I now understand the difference. I am very much learning with GPS technology but I do find the stats detail quite interesting in a geeky kind of way.

  • pfft, big ring

As a result of your weekend ride? Sounds... nasty.

  • I've been away working in Australia for the last month and have enjoyed some lovely riding. Working nights has meant that I can get in some decent time on the bike before it's too hot.

Anyway, this was a ride I did on my day off. It was a great route with amazing views and fantastic wildlife. I'll post some pics when back in the UK.

ps. This is my first attempt at embedding a ride, so let me know if I've got it wrong.

    Cheers, Tom

  • It worked!

  • Not sure if this is the right place or not but I downloaded one of those cycling apps for my phone and decided to test it out this evening on a ride to the shops, I was going for it as I wanted to see what I could do as I'm interested in doing some more serious riding rather than just commuting.

    Distance: 5.26 miles
    Average speed: 17.9 mph
    Pace: 3:20mins/mile
    Time: 17:39mins
Two climbs just pushing 60 feet

Where do I stand at the moment? I live in the middle of nowhere so i'm racing against 4x4's and tractors, there is no cycling scene apart from the odd donkey who can't ride for sh1t and chooses some swish argus bike as their steed. I would like to know where I am in terms of fitness compared to other riders and also what could I do to improve that time?

  • there is always somebody faster than you.

  • ^This is true.

However, I think you need to test yourself over more than 5.26 miles to get any kind of real indication.
