did that cambrige ride up ^
decided to do a 6pt and not eat all the way, was pretty knackered by the end. -

^^^ Did 70 miles at 15.9 rolling average at the weekend and it damn nearly finished me. My only excuse is a month or so off the weekend trundles. And look at you, you bastards... notching rides like that up fixed. I feel old and tired. Old and tired I tells ya!
I'm a shell of a man though...barely keeping my eyes open.
12 months ago I could barely average 15mph geared. It has been a really good year...this cycling malarkey is awesome.

That inspires me somewhat. Although at 35 I feel I left it a tad late to take this up and expect to make much improvement. That said - March this year 20 miles and knee pain. A month ago 65 at 17mph and a light nap to recover, so who knows?

To be honest 35 is pretty much dead, I'd abandon all hope.
Short one today:

I turned 30 in July. At least I know I've got 5 years left in me...
-
• #2907
Yes, but bear in mind that you'll be dropping off during those five years- so you'll be at 50% death by 32.5

33 miles along the north Norfolk coast. Blackley-Langham-Binham-Wareham-Wells-New Holkum-Burnham Thorpe - and then back again, but with the wind behind me. That was fun.

Ignore the nay sayers! I started back cycling around 3 years ago and this year have done a couple of 100 milers averaging 16.5. I was 35 yonks ago :-(

my girlfriend bought a road bike on saturday and insisted on a long ride despite not having riden a bike since she was 14.(other than half an hour in the park to get a feel for the bike)
sunday i took her the 25 miles from crawley to brighton down cycle route 20. she slayed it. 12 mph average, good bike control on shitty surfaces, we stopped once to find a loo, saddle and bars at the correct heights for casual road riding and cages with trainers until she feels confident enough to ride with cleats. i'm really impressed.
and yes, she is signing up for cycle instruction..... -

Impressive! ^
I bought a ladies fit hybrid for my wife / daughters to share. So far both my daughters have given it a go and the best so far has been my youngest daughter on a roll along the coast from Herne Bay to Whitstable and back with pretty much constant complaints about discomfort despite my making sure the bike was set up well for her height. The other daughter did a 4 mile ride along the Thames with pretty much the same verbal dialogue. -

commiserations. at least you can get them on a bike though. i don't have kids yet but it's inevitable in the next few years and i do wonder whether they will be up for cycling or completly averse to excercise like a lot of my mate's kids seem to be.

good work matt^^^
as you know ella 16 and skye 12 both have road bikes now and think it's totally cool and love LMNH and could probably name the Team Sky for 2012, despite me telling them it's a sport for old folks.. what they don't know is that when they were both very small, i asked their grandad (who is mad about cycling) to buy them new bikes once they started walking and as they grew up. that was the only demand I ever made and he kept his promise.
both got on the road at an early age too, which gave them tons of confidence they have become quite fearless. don't give up wvm, it can be hard to make children warm to something you're passionate about. suggest a bit of reverse psychology

i might bring gf up to lmnh soon. she seems pretty keen on riding and exposure to riders other than me with my peculiarities might be useful.

fortuitous as the track was rained off both days,
oh yeah did a swimathon too

j, got any interesting riding planned around xmas-ness? I'll be getting some frosty miles in round there somewhere.
also considering bringing the track bike down, but I doubt anything'll be happening at the velodrome over that period? -

45 Essexy Autumnal miles. Bit of hill action but didn't mix it with the Lea Valley CC chaps on their Hill climb (some determined faces there).
Bonked on a 75 Miler last week ( http://www.lfgss.com/thread74764.html ) and really enjoyed the energy afforded me today by the shorter ride. My pal Bigpaintbrush's new Ribble caused some issues though. Heading down Coopersale Lane from Theydon Bois his Campag hub went from a reassuring ratchet sound to dead silent!!! About 10 miles later we bottled it because of this and trundled home (neither of us equipped with the knowledge to know how serious a problem it was). A phone call to Ribble beckons but from preliminary research we guess he may have a buggered Pawl spring in there somewhere???
But as I say, the early home turn gave us the beans to have a good attack at it on the way back, which was a boost of confidence for weary old minds. Nice day. Roads were quiet and the air bracing, loads of wheelers out there Just hope my mate's hub aint terminal. Apologies for the slightly Bikeradar post.
Rep is due to the bloke who lives in one of the houses at the bottom of Coopersale Lane. He saw us with the wheel off and popped out to see whether we wanted any tools. And then (and this is above and beyond) offered us a spare wheel to get us home (which we didn't need). What a don! If by any slim chance you're on here sir you are a gent.

That was a nice ride.
Bit wobbly now, not from ride tho
