cat n fiddle ride done, efforts on hills then steady between waiting for Gf who rode really well too.
[ego]timed cat n fiddle, just under 30mins turning in Macc to the Pub, ave 89%mhr. Not sure how good that is relative to the big wide world but noone came past me or even stayed with me... off to look up some hill climb times for there... [/ego]
top speed over 45mph, stuck behind some Sunday drivers or else 50 easily reached on the fastest descent on a good clear day.
had a nice chat with Robert Penn at the end, he of that dream bike build book/tv show, nice chap.

= tired legs today!
The most enjoyable riding of the whole summer for me. As discussed last night my legs feel ok on the flat but totally give out on me when presented with any kind of slope. I'm also feeling very hungry all the time.
EDIT: And St M was the best way possible to rack up only my third ever 300mi week (380mi in last 8 days). This summer isn't over yet.

Rode the Wandle Trail today - fantastic day out. Would make a brilliant forum ride.

A simple loop out into Essex, which I must have done a couple of dozen times (with variations). I didn't feel good, even over and above being unfit, but then got more into it at about 40 miles. Three litres of water were drunk in total, plus a pint of beer in Moreton.

Would be too... sort of - it's not a mistake that needed correcting. "Me and her" / "her and I" etc. is a ridiculous antiquated Victorian-ism based like so so many other things from the time, on rules of social etiquette. You carry on with your Me & ... etc. :)

By my guestimations... 1070-ish? 900ish on Tuesday wasn't it..
Well either way you've done a good 250miles more than me this month. Ramping my target up to 1200km for this month.. Doubtful

I only just beat it at 1014 miles for the month, a shame the ride i did yesterday didnt count as that would have made it a nice 1100+.
maybe that should be my target for this month....

another sunday group ride of getting dropped and left for dead. le sigh
Started off nice, but again people from fast group thought they would just tag along on the cafe group, but then kept firing it up to race pace.
Went from carlisle upto nenthead then alston then hartside, lost them good on proper below alston as had to stop for water, and they didn't...... few metres later came across a girl who had just binned her car into a sandstone wall (lift off over steered at the wrong time in a puddle), airbags gone off, if she'd been carrying any more momentum would have gone through the wall and down a 15m drop into a ravine.
Turns out she was a young vet (and a nice one at that) on her way home, must have happened just a few mins before I got there. She was OK, very shaken and on me turning up burst into tears, guess it had just started to sink in. Spent about 10mins with her (free brickman hugs for pretty girl in distress) just straightening her out, calming her down, was overly worried about the car but its just metal & plastic! Then her boss (jag w/charger, should have been a vet!) turned up and all was well.Anyway, back on trying to hopelessly catch up with Cadel Evans et al, two peeps that I'd been riding with had stopped for me to help shield against wind and rain (30mph and lashing in the face) for the rest of it, lasted about 2 more mile before cold wet legs gave up on me and was reduced to walking pace. lost those guys too. went on for another 2miles at literally walking pace (25-30mins) and no sign of anyone else, weather got worse, so sheltered behind a conveniently placed van for another 30min. gave it another go, but decided it was now stupid to carry on any higher, so high tailed it back down to town thinking I could catch a bus or hitch a lift. Fail. gave up on that and spent 4hrs wiggling down roads I didn't know until eventually found my way back to Carlisle.
So yeah, sunday group rides, always good O_o -

Pretty fcuking tough man... you're talking 50miles x 20 days, 65 x 16, 80 x 13..
Can't imagine being able to fit in 4 65 milers in to 1 week... or 3 80's for that matter.

2 x 100mi and a bit of pootling on rest days suits me better at the moment. Have been doing that for a few weeks anyway.

BrickMan you're keen to stick with that lot. Someone should have a word to the racers who are splitting up and spoiling an honest no-drop ride.
-
• #2820
^ +1 the racers need to htfu and get out with the big boys, not shred the cafe group to bits. Club etiquette 101.
that said, the cafe group leader/most experienced should've just sat up and let the racers go ahead rather than get sucked into trying to keep the pace of the fastest.

I think they all understand HOW a cafe club ride should be, but they get chatting, knock down a few and march on for miles at a time before even realising more than the half the group is scattered down the valley behind them.
Good point with the racers hardening up, if they want fast/ training then ideally even if there are only a few of them, get out and do just that, not come and prey on the weak :D
Need to stay in with them though as there are no other club ride type clubs about, only mid-life crisis racers & tri people. -

Cheers ears. I'll probably pick something up in the new year. Bit tired of having to stop every mile or so and check cellphone map app. -
