I can't not see that now!
Damn I need a garmin so I can follow a route like that without stopping every mile to check direction..
to be honest it doesn't look like their Garmin was working!

St. Ives
If it makes you feel any better my ticket from Huntingdon was 17 quid, also quite painful.
oh THAT St.Ives... it does get a bit blowy in the fens...

Yes, although I rode to St Ives (Cornwall) earlier in the year. I can now confirm that it is St Ives in Cambridgeshire from which the man with seven wives emanated, as there is a pub in St Ives (Cambridgeshire) called the Seven Wives, this is the sign:

Today I had a spare hour so rode a favourite 14mile loop from my house, through the local villages and back. Some huge hills which I usually blast up on my roadie, were near impossible as I was struggling to get pedal turns. But nether the less I had a really good ride. One thing I noticed was the huge amount of rode vibration, not used to steel forks you see.
This barn skeleton seems to get more warped every time I pass it.

I just went for a spin around the block. Bit autumnal out, no?
We're approaching a particular period of top cycling weather, I reckon. It's fresh and bracing, but before the coldest months when everything either stings or goes numb.

^yeah i've really been enjoying the homeward leg of the commute in this weather (i know "tell us about your weekday ride" >>>>>>> )

Went for a quick spin, now can't warm myself up...still was a nice spin, made nicer by a chat to one of the palace to palace route marshall people on way home.

www.northerncoffeetour.co.uk yesterday. Point to point into headwind, and I got my nutrition wrong early on which led to some dark moments over Saddleworth. Perked up after lunch for Manc - L'pool which was great fun.
Nice to meet Kompute on the ride too.

It was lovely earlier. Not so nice first thing, but then the sun came out.
I didn't really have time for a proper ride today, so did 38 miles out into Essex. Left at 11.30, 18.3mph average (which I suppose I should be celebrating as its the fastest fixed rider I've ever done, and the route was quite hilly for Essex, but meh), one wee/snickers stop, home by 2. It was good timing in terms of riding while the nice warm sun was out.

Started out on a nice 18mile loop with a mate on Saturday (who is just starting to get into riding). Slow going, but pleasant nonetheless. That is until he discovered he'd dropped his wallet somewhere, and we had completed about 3/4 of the route. We turned around and started to re-trace our steps. Meanwhile the heavens opened and we got soaked through. And we didn't find the wallet.
It was still a good ride, and my mate's wallet turned up when he was ringing around cancelling cards; someone had reported it found to one of his banks. He got it back unscathed and with all the contents intact :)

Legs of Steel + the backside of box hill (ouch). I think we were doing it wrong - two punctures in the first 10 miles and distinctly outnumbered on the road by mountain bikers lapping off road routes.

tipped the waiter £20 that night,
karma you see (I was a waiter for years)The funny thing is my mate didn't offer the guy the £10 that was in the wallet as some sort of thank you. He thought it would be "insulting". Mind, he's a bit of a closet rich boy and doesn't have much money sense at the best of times.

32 miles on my fave lap of south Herts. For reasons unknown, I grabbed my Swinnerton 7-speed. Felt like it needed a day out. Wasn't that much slower, even with my cack-handed use of the downtube shifters.
Today I had a little blast on a Christiania, super slow and crap cornering. But you seem to float along and I could resist a few blasts on bell to say look a me. Might use it tomorrow for a work event to move some gear. Must give it a clean...

Saturday morning I set off for Amsterdam with two mates. 96 miles from home to Harwich to catch the ferry at 23.30. Nice riding, quite flat but a bit wet too. Only 1 puncture all day which was nice! Had a lot of booze on the ferry which wasn't a brilliant idea as we only got 4 hours sleep before being dumped off at the Hook of Holland at 7 in the morning!
We did 54 miles from the Hook to Amsterdam following a route nabbed from Gpsies took us a very scenic way, one possibly more suited to bigger tyres as we went through a fair few forest tracks. We stopped for coffee at 10.30, where I took this picture:
From then on we were being chased by some very nasty clouds so we made a tactical stop for lunch at a restaurant by a pretty canal, feeling very smug as it then tipped it down for 2 hours! When the rain stopped we carried on to Amsterdam. Worst bit was the 5 miles getting into the centre from the outskirts - lots of traffic lights. Constant start/stopping isn't great fun with a full Carradice saddlebag! Had a quick nap then out for a night on the Duvel...........
The next morning we pootled around some of the other areas of Amsterdam that we hadn't seen. The weather was pretty rubbish though so around midday we set off for Rotterdam. A constant headwind for 43 miles was pretty tough, though the sun was out for most of the day. We had a very nice meal out in Rotterdam, even though choice was limited by it being a Monday.
Tuesday was a short slog into an even worse headwind. Just 28 miles but really tough all the way. We did however see a very nice windmill - the highlight of a crappy morning!
Celebratory beer with lunch on the ferry then I slept most of the journey in a cabin! Got back at 11 last night, work first thing this morning. Brilliant fun, now I'm planning where to go for the next one!
I did Cucumber Lane, to, but did not go as far as Bread and Cheese Lane.
