Just a hangover killing spin for me today.
20mi along the coast around Aldeburgh, Dunwich and Minsmere.
Stats attack:
Average speed 19.0 mph
Av HR: 162 bpm
Elevation gain: 379ft (There and back route so loss is equal)
Cadence: A knee crunching 77Lovely day for a ride but I found the wind a bit of a challenge. It wasn't that strong but kept blustering into a side wind and I'm not used to riding on 50mm rims yet. Certainly keeps you on your toes!
Is it my imagination or did I find my new wheels made a noticeable difference riding into the wind? Surely that was in my head...

A pretty easy feeling 40 miles from Peckham up and around Epping. My knee feels fine, too! Result.

As london prepares for 2012 I thought Id do my bit and test the road race course.
Starting at Kingston because hydepark probably wasn't a good idea.Road the whole course to the bottom of boxhill where the security kicked in.
Overall I think its a great route really flows well & stable lane hill is one of my favourites. All the volunteers were good natured - if a little green
Only place I had a problem was coming back afterwards through Richmond Park
Gaveup considering the pointlessness of stopping people riding there
(id more than my fill so went home) -

4hrs at 12hr race pace on the Kinesis yesterday (as it was supposed to rain).
7hrs out to Bicester, Buckingham, Aylesbury today on the TT bike, much slower due to all overpowering sense of "why the fuck am I doing this?! I wish I was on the couch watching a movie". It turned into a good ride but I totally gave up on any proper pacing.

A personal goal was achieved this weekend: the first century ride. 115 ish miles in all, out and back to Thaxted in Essex.
High points: the tea room and windmill in Thaxted.
Low point: about 45 miles in when a bee flew into my mouth and stung me.Thanks Fox for the route and Laner for the company!

Those home grown tomatoes were also a high point. Just before that stingy low.
I also love that road past Tilty.

A bee (possibly a wasp, but it was yellow and buzzy) flew into my mouth yesterday as well. Never happened to me before.
Do you guys have a route for that Thaxted ride? I like rides involving Essex and windmills.

A bee flew into the vents of my helmet yesterday...took me a few moments to work out what the buzzing sensation coming from my scalp was. Luckily I was wearing a cap underneath so wasnt stung.

Found a new circuit to ride round doddinghurst in essex. After going downhill quite fast at one point an irishman in a car pulled up alongside and shouted excitedly, "You were doing tirty moiles an hour dere!" It wasn't the fastest I've been but made my Sunday that he was impressed by it

Tut tut, you should ride with your mouth closed.

57 miles Stockport - Holmfirth past Dovestones, back over Holme Moss to Woodhead, Glossop, Hayfield.
Managed to get tangled up with a sportive, so lots of getting passed by pairs of fitter, better kitted out cyclists and being asked if I was OK. Ducked off the final hill down a side road for a quick exhausted snooze on a heathery verge before rejoining the racers. A grand day out.
I got stung by something too, at least not in my mouth though. Still itchy.

Started at 10pm Saturday as the Exmouth Exodus, got my burgers at Souths just under 48 hours later. Fun!
(having a nagging feeling I should have ridden to Bristol on Saturday morning, just to make the circle complete) -

I did Bristol to Exmouth with tricitybendix, had a nap at her parents' place then rode on alone to Poole. Dinner and a sleep at my parents then a grind home. Geared, ipod for company to take my mind off my knees. 17.3mph all in (moving), I think.
I have a rather impressive blister on my left palm. I think this occurred because I snapped the lip off my left cleat during the Bristol to Exmouth stretch, so for the ride to Poole couldn't lift with that leg when it came to grinding up hills so I got a bit lopsided. Picked up some cleats in Poole and rode back to London with my left leg because the right one was knackered :)
(used the innermost ring on my triple for the first time in years trying to get out of Lyme Regis. It hurt.)There was a lovely moment when I got to the top of Epsom Downs and could see London lying before me when I felt that everything was going to be ok
/soppyand finally, there is a road in Hackbridge called Mile Road. OSM routing and Google would suggest this to be walkable, maybe acceptable cycling terrain. Having got there (and now checked satellite photos too), it most definitely isn't :)

ipod for company to take my mind off my knees.
A wise move. A bit of audio on a long ride is a very useful thing, indeed.
Cracking ride mate, absolutely cracking.
good luck mao.. should be fun
