  • Thanks, ferry over to Mull on the Saturday, glorious weather, sportive on the Sunday, well organised except for the weather- pishing down all day, finished up, had half a veggie burger then back out to prove something to myself, didn’t record the extra but I know I did it, ferry back on the Monday, sunshine all the way home, slept well after that, planning the badger divide next.

  • Sounds absolutely brilliant (apart from the weather!).

  • Its Scotland, to be expected, I enjoy the whole thing, if there’s a ferry and an island and camping and a long bike ride it’s a proper adventure, good for my head.

  • Not yet but my partner’s got a horrendous cold at the moment and is coughing her guts up so I’m imploring the gods protect me from catching that.

    @marcomarcos thanks

  • That’s literally adding insult to injury. Hope you both recover quickly.

  • I rode to Paris with Will

  • Rain and sunshine. Bagged some tiles, ate a premium scotch egg in Marlow. Drank a beer. Sat by the Thames.

  • Another silly ride.
Leeds to Cleckheaton to meet a mate from work and his pals. And then a trip over to Ilkley, up Cow and Calf with less strain than anticipated (those reps on East Chevin seem to be working), through to Saltaire for food, then peeled off solo again and rode back to Otley, went round Almscliff a couple times and looped home.

100 miles, 7700ft, and one tired Nef. About 67 miles solo and 35 with the group. Definitely went a little too deep, but nice to have something to put your name to over the weekend!

  • It did the Dirty Winza ride last weekend but didn't like all the bits from Richmond Park up to Swinley forest, the course was all on very narrow paths that loads of families use for a walk and you have to slow down to a crawl constantly to get past, makes you feel like a proper twat cycling there.

The area around Swinley forest on the other hand is AMAZING! Would totally recommend just heading straight there and enjoy that area. Some parts look like a Far Cry map.
Some of the route is through a MOD high speed testing area incl. danger to life, so an exciting ride is guaranteed.
The loop back around Windsor and Slough is OK, I didn't bother going back to Richmond but
switched to the Union Canal towards Paddington and then home. 180km in total but slow going
    especially the first 90km.

  • This weekend I though I just do some easy tile collecting in the Southeast. I kind of expected a pootle
through suburban streets and didn't pay much attention to the route planning just drew the course
where I wanted to hit the tiles I haven't been to.
Ended up a complete shit show, especially the first 60km, lots of pushing the bike through overgrown paths and lifting over gates and barriers. I think this was my lowest average speed ever.
The weather was great so it was a nice ride in the end just not what I was expecting.
    125km but took 6.5h

  • Did a hilly 40 miles on Friday. Got some lovely sunshine in. Rode some paths and roads that I have not ridden previously: Headstone Tunnel / Viaduct, some apparently unnamed road out of Monsal Dale up towards Wardlow. Had a chip butty in Hathersage at about mile 30, at which point I was feeling fresh as fuck, sitting there thinking to myself "You know, you're a lot fitter than you give yourself credit for, you should stop beating yourself up for being out of shape". 5 miles and 1100 feet of climbing later I was at the top of Stanage feeling absolutely fuckered and extremely glad that it was pretty much all downhill to get me home.

  • That climb out of hathersage must be brutal. Been up in the car, wouldn’t fancy it on the bike!

  • Which route out? The Sheffield Road way? I've never done that climb as it's full of traffic and there is no way I am suffering my way up that steep bastard whilst also being treated to a thousand close passes. Maybe I'll try it on a quiet evening one day.

I normally prefer to get back from Hathersage by going up Coggers. It adds a couple of miles and an extra 200 feet versus going via the Dale, but it seems psychologically easier as you do get the opportunity for the occasional breather. Whichever way you decide to go it's pretty savage though.

  • Yeah my mates used to cycle straight up from Hathersage to go climbing - no thanks!

  • On the Ridgeway today, near Compton in Oxfordshire.

  • Cracking day for it, congratulations:-)

  • The plan was to do this on Saturday, starting at 4:30AM, to end up with 400 something kms around sundown.

Annoyingly, the ride ended for me after a triple puking session over the last 40 kms. Probably caused by the tuna melt bagel and ginger beer I had in Amsterdam, on top of many energy bars, maltodextrin/sport nutrition drink and raisin buns :-/

Maybe I should have eaten a little less all in all, but I didn't want to risk bonking as it's nigh impossible to keep up with the calories burning away. In hindsight, bonking probably wouldn't have felt so bad. My companion Ed escorted me to the nearest train station and carried on solo, he finished with 430kms around 10PM, class. Better luck next June, hopefully.

The ride was nice though! So lovely to start so early and see nature (or whatever's left of that in NL) wake up, great to ride along the Veluwe National Park and over the dam between Lelystad & Enkhuizen, along the IJsselmeer to Amsterdam, probably bagged the most dike kms in any ride ever.

Lost 2 kg body weight because of not being able to eat or drink for 5 hours after the ride but managed to compensate that later on and yesterday. Funny my legs weren't even completely 'gone', had no problems doing a swift messenger shift this morning, so all good in the end.

  • ouch, you OK and on the beach I hope?

  • Broken collarbone (this one is quite sore, hit pretty hard and my whole rib cage is pretty fucking unhappy). Now doing an NHS dance trying to get my shithouse insurance to get me an orthopedic surgeon appointment to see if it needs plating or not. No beach I'm afraid.

  • Ouch. Healing wishes. Hope you get good treatment!

  • Oof fecksticks, sorry to hear it, heal the fuck up ASAP.
