  • "The Great Vertical, connecting 3 kingdoms

The Great Vertical shares the essence of the CAT700. This is a non-competitive journey that aims to make you discover the great variety of landscapes that range between the coast and 1,500 meters of altitude and that cover the lands of Castellón, Tarragona and Teruel.

Its circular nature makes it ideal for a weekend activity with simplified logistics. Some of its strong points turn this challenge into an exceptional human and geographical experience. This is a cycling adventure in capital letters."

Billed as 10,000m of climb I ended up with over 7000m and it had rained so we had PB mud in a few places, pouring rain overnight. Basically, I'm still fucked from it.

  • Far cry from the above, flooded roads, drizzle, mud everywhere. But shorts for first time of the year!

  • Bank holiday weekend ride

We had a beer and sandwich in the woods, I had a puncture, we had birthday pints in the rain, we had fun.

  • Rode the Flanders sportive and it was bonkers. Someone crashed right in front of me on the Koppenberg, so I had to unclip but managed to get going again (yay cross riding experience) whilst the majority of people were walking up shitfromabuttenberg. Would ride again.

30mm Jack Brown Mile Munchers from Planet-X still the best tyres ever made, fight me

  • Lovely (windy) totter around Chichester this morning. Have a soft spot for this area.

  • Has anyone mislaid a consistent headwind?

  • Sometimes being heavy has advantages. "What wind?"

  • I was in that neck of the woods a couple of weeks ago. Glorious 25 degree weather and barely any wind. May have timed it well.

  • We were there at Xmas too and it was almost ~20C during the days. Glorious shorts weather. Sub-zero overnight though so we had to pack decent camp kit.

  • Yeah, it did get a bit chilly in the evenings - even in late March - but thankfully I was staying at my mate's place near the Via Verde, so didn't have to pack more than a merino top to stay warm. Lovely area, though. Will be back I reckon.

  • Made the mistake of going past Goodwood with a car thing on. Lots of bellends in tweed jackets and sports cars everywhere.

Still, lovely ride to Littlehampton via Ford where there was another car show next to the cafe.

  • I rode The Bartlett today, a nice route that took me east away from my usual trails.

Handy for anyone Croydon way looking for gravel trails

  • I went to Whitstable and back, everything went surprisingly well. Those narrow country lanes are shit.

  • Those narrow country lanes are shit.

Hm, if that's your idea of a country lane ... :)

    Sounds like a great ride!

  • Epsom to Whitstable used to be my favourite road ride but that looks like a great ride. Have you got a route you can share?

  • Rode through Epsom on Sat. Fuck me the roads there are so shit. No wonder gravel bikes are a thing.

Sunday was a bit shorter so we could get to a BBQ

  • Ta. Nicked that route and added to list.

  • Just a warning that the world's worst drivers congregate in Westerham.

  • As I say to my wife when she drives the circa 2km into Epsom for her weekly fitness class and moans about the lack of parking...

You know why the roads are shit. Too many fucking cars #motornormativity

  • That must be where they go on weekends when they aren't in Tooting doing the #tootingshuffle

You know, pull out from a side road across the traffic and onto the A road only to turn left 50 metres up the road.

  • Well yes, but they seem particularly shit there. Pervasive use of Range Rovers by horsey fucks I guess.

  • I am in Plumstead so just made a route with cycle.travel and followed that. Next time I would probably go around the Strood, Rochester, Gillingham cluster. You lose a lot of time in those parts.
