Solo ride to Box Hill this morning, first trip on Golgotha (titanium road bike) since Styrkeprøven Race in Norway 2014. Bottom bracket squeaked and gears jumped on the climbs. i need to shed about 30lbs and get bike serviced.. still despite the drama, round trip was quicker than expected, weather was glorious, roads not too busy.
I turn 50 next year, so hopefully some new adventures planned. Great posts @MetalMelly

Got up dead early, rode to Lymington and got the ferry over to the Isle of Wight for a lap. Ferry home, train to Winchester to avoid New Forest/Southampton traffic and did the last 30 miles home. There's some great riding on the IoW, South West coast road is Mallorca-esque and there's some good climbs - though repeated short sharp ones got boring.

Roads look to be in great nick. Heard they all got resurfaced recently.

I went for a ride. Commuting and two or three short fixed jaunts aside - I haven't been for a ride for three years!!!
Only about 40 miles. Nervy about all the clicks and dink noises a geared road bike makes and some weird relationship issues with gears in general but I got back in one piece. I've had a shit time ride wise after some crash / financial / time poor constraints and my mojo was all but dead... so an afternoon of pleasantly sore legs felt quite nice! Made me sad for the lost legs though. I used to be able to go further and faster.
In other news @MetalMelly is epic!

@MetalMelly well done! Nice.
I finally got a proper ride in after the 10km/416m hill rep session last week. Only a short 30km, all this pasta really weighs you down.
Must take photos, it's beautiful here.

Thanks. Good that you're back in the saddle. Further and faster will return to you and your legs and other support mechanisms! You obviously enjoy the pain!

@Cycliste and I finished our Iceland tour this weekend. Most of it was on road, with quite a few Sam and Frodo moments:
Some bits were on gravel roads, like the Oxi shortcut from Egilsstadir to Djupivigor:
And one bit on the last day was more of a bridleway:
We travelled light, staying in hotels and not camping, and we were incredibly lucky with the weather. The only bad thing was the standard of Icelandic driving, which is absofuckinglutely biblically awful. Endless pointless close passes, and I was run off the road five times by oncoming drivers who decided that they'd rather be on the left hand side of the road.
Total stats were 12 days' cycling, 883 miles travelled and about 47k feet climbed. And no punctures.

Impressive, both the trip and finding drivers worse than England

Hi. Delayed reply. Tbh I'm not sure where I joined. Cops were fine but firm. And of course my corrected route in from Haddington via Musselborough was fine. I'd just had enough of coastal views and was needy to finish. Ah well it all adds to the story which I will write up. It was a great ride and I'm missing getting on the bike in the morning. And the breakfasts! Edinburgh was busy as a place can be...a scrum in Old Town. Fabulous in the sunshine.

Maybe you guys would appreciate this heat map. Celebrating 2 years since my first shift as a courier. Done over 34,000km since then (not all in London, but whatever!). Here's the map for those 2 years. Looks a lot cooler without the background map. Roughly 14 x 8 km.

Hit a pothole at speed cos I was shoulder checking for cars. No flat or visible damage, but pretty hairy halfway down a minor descent on a winding Italian road.

Rode around in circles for 10min bedding in brakes on two bikes.

Tour de Broads - 50 miles.
Killer headwind Acle to South Walsham. Temperature low 20's, just right for cycling.
Nothing of note in this ride really, no intervention from the cops, no hitting potholes (lots of them but steered around)

Averages here tho. Every six feet is a pothole. Gotta hit one eventually. Will try remember to take a photo when I go out tomorrow.
GF's family is making me fat, the whole prenzo thing requires burning a lot of calories to avoid obesity.
Now totally knackered after a 32ml chase around the Pangbourne hills. Lovely sunny, mind you.
