  • Well it seemed as though it would be ok, an afternoon 25, without much wind, on a course with no big hills. But it didn't work out for me.

I seemed to be going reasonably well in the first few miles, although my 90" gear did seem a bit higher than usual on the modestly uphill parts. Then John French (Oxford City RC) caught me for two minutes long before he should have done. Mr. French was the only other fixed gear rider, and he finished with a creditable 58.00 for tenth place.

The winner was David Johnson (VC10) with 55.28, closely followed by Mark Cox (Fairly United CT) with 55.47.

I recorded a disappointing 1.6.48. Maybe I had dehydrated - I was still about six pounds under my normal nine and a half stone that evening. And I had a hangover like headache without having drunk any alcohol.

Note to myself for the next hot afternoon: Drink plenty of water beforehand.

  • ^ Stick it in the TT thread, too, Chris?

Todays little jaunt, beautiful day with a typical headwind in every direction.
    48/18 gearing.

  • Nice ride Andy- odd question for you, do you work in/with Optics?

  • I used to, why?

  • CVI Melles Griot?

  • No, SLS Optics. http://www.slsoptics.com/default.aspx

    Pricks, the lot of them.

  • Yesterday I thought it would be a good idea to spend an hour cycling to the top of a hill and back down again. 1h16m to do 18 miles with about 2400ft climbing. Pretty tired by the end of it.
    Here's the route:*

  • Why can't I get the pics to embed?

    User error, ho hum.

  • The Ride with GPS ones? Just view the route, then copy and paste the link, VB's magic does the rest.

  • Sorted. Was trying to use the links provided on the site. Might have known VB would have sorted it for us computer illiterate types.

  • just back from a lovely ride in the kent lanes. used the TNRC Kent 1 route (Sam, can't thank you enough for this beauty). this is probably the sixth or seventh time i have done this route and it gets better every time. even exedown hill.

pleasure to ride with shinscar, slamm and plum.

pecan whiskey tart was pretty rockin too.

  • just been for a jaunt around the south birmingham countryside. saw a peregrine, worked up a sweat, popped in to the 'rents house for some coffee. All good.

  • Just finished a lovely ride. Really had fun in the warm sun. 4 hours around quiet Dorset lanes, enjoyable ascents and the occasional tailwind.

  • Great ride today - eventful and eclectic (and hard). Solo non-TNRC recce, and not giving any details away yet, other than the fact I had to get off and walk :O

  • Oooh, that must have been a steep downhill. :)

  • Pifko, where was that phoho taken?

  • @OS - not scuppered by a gradient (well, not entirely).

  • I did a gentle 50ish mile recovery ride down the river lea, mostly on the tow path but I also did some brief trail exploring in Epping forrest and the marshes. Great fun, but my legs don't feel very recovered at the moment.

    ouch!

  • Did the Great Kent Ride today. 60 superb miles out from and back to Ashford. An incredibly well organised ride and a perfect day for it too.

  • at least the place fails to live up to its name...blandford?

  • After hearing the guys I work with talking about richmond park on numerous occasions, yesterday I decided it was time to do a lap myself. I only really ride to commute at the moment which means riding 8 miles a day so I thought i'd be looking at about 25-30 mins for a lap.

Starting at Stag lodge entrance and riding clockwise, I didn't know the route so took it easy in case a hill suddenly appeared.

I was riding fixed 39 x 16 and surprised myself with a lap time of 22 minutes 30 seconds which has got me thinking of what might be possible if I push myself and try it on a different set up.

Really want to try it with drops as I've never properly ridden anything other than risers as I previously only rode BMX so prefer an upright riding position although now I'm becoming more and more frustrated by the amount of wind resistance sitting bolt upright causes when I'm trying to go fast.

I've definitely caught the go fast bug!
