    Massive Respect to Cadel for making them hurt ... I am loving the blog itself as well....

    I was trying to explain to a co-worker drunkenly on friday what the big ring attitude is ..... she didn't get it and pretty sure a lot of people don't. She thought didn't understand why I pedalled down hill as well as up them ... even when I am freewheeling.

    How do you explain to people who don't understand what "Big Attitude" Is? How do you convince them that they should bring their enemies to the "Pain Cave"? Is it possible for them to understand?

    Not everyone can be a winner.

    Also. 'Pain Cave'. Brilliant.

    I can't take credit for the phrase ... the writer of "Big Ring Riding" coined it.

    However what really got me is that she just didn't understand why I wanted to ride hard and fast .. it aint about winning ... though that is nice ... it is about the attitude of going for it and knowing you were some sort of bike warrior .. riding up whatever is in front of you and never giving up.

  • ha! yeah +1 on 'pain cave' and that picture of Bernard Hinault.
    this blog goes straight to 'favourites'

  • I love this sentence on Cipollini;

    Never understood the dislike people have of Evans. He appears to be, possibly, a clean rider who has been cheated out of major victories by some of the most dubious buggers in cycling. He's smart, modest and thoughtful, doesn't much like the attention and having to talk all the time to journalists and attacks when he can; which, surprise surprise, seems to be more often since the biological passport started to have some effect. The criticisms seem to boil down to him not having 'panache' (though he has shown that in spades in the last year) and to him being a bit snappy at times. Oh and having a high pitched voice.
    If Evans wins this Giro it will be a great thing for integrity in cycling. At which point he will probably test positive :(

    All the things you say are right but every now and again he comes across as a complete bellend. I was really happy to see him win the worlds and Fleche Wallone but then at some point he'll start whining or telling someone not to step on his dog and he'll just begin to get on my tits (in the same way Armstrong does when anyone asks him a question about doping).

    Were I in Cadel's position I'd be ten times worse than him in dealing with the pressure he does so I'm not sure why I can't like him more than I do - maybe it is the voice. Or prhaps it's because he shares a name with the worst bike shop ever so everyone associates him with them subconciously so he's never really going to win... poor lad.
