  • There is a cool campsite on a small island on thames somewhere (I forget exactly), you can only use it if you arrive under your own steam.

    There's more than one..

The ones marked with baby jeebus symbol is for "those travelling by foot, cycle or boat".

    Eynsham Lock, Pinkhill Lock, etc..

  • the hammocks look pretty good. Where do you put your stuff though? Leave it on the bike? Makes sense for 1 nighters though, you would only need that and a sleeping bag.

  • Re Norfolk

Get the train to Kings Lynn

Get put of Lynn asap via Castle Rising and Sandringham.

Head for Wells next the sea across country and camp at Wells

Then either go back to Lynn or along the coast to Cromer or down to Norwich and home.

    There's also a campsite / bunk house @ Burnham overy staithe .

  • Great knowledge there Peter! Cheers.

For keeping it dry, you can stash your stuff under the hammock, as it has quite a large footprint.
Nice little review of the hennessy one here

  • So how did it all go Josh/H ?
    Sounds like a great weekend..

  • getting a Mtn Equip lightweight tent off a mate soon, carryable by bike,
getting stoked about some coastal eves out, been nearly ten years since I camped out on the S/W coast path, bike, pub, camp, stars, love it-- top value.

If i can speak for myself and the Lock Nazi Precise, its was fucking lovely. Fixed touring is less fun than I imagined, but the hills were relaxed, and our campsite was stunnning.
    Here, have some photos

    • Getting a train to Norfolk (for instance) on a Saturday morning, cycling all day, draining a bar, making a fire, sleeping and wending slowly back home the next morning with a stop for a decent lunch.

I'd be really interested in seeing who's up for it in principle.

    Any thoughts?

I live in Suffolk now (Like Norfolk, but better) If some of you wanted to get a train up to Ipswich (1 hour and not much money from liverpool street), and meet me there, I could show you some really, really good pubs, some beautiful places to ride, and some amazing, free places to camp.

If you're game, let me know.

  • Lock Nazi Precise

"Henry, isn't this exactly where your first bike got stolen from?"

"Yeah. Just leave it locked by the front wheel, it'll be fine"

    ;-)

The alarm was a bit OTT mind... I near shit my pants when you set it off at 7:00am this morning!

  • the tarp was a stroke of genius though.

  • Gerrards Cross > Beaconsfield > Wooburn Green > Bourne End > Cookham > Marlow >
    Henley > Nettlebed > Wallingford > sleep > Shillingford > Stadhampton > Oxford...

  • helmet tripod ftw!

  • Yea.
    I'm in Kings Lynn.
If you come up this way on the train and get out to the coast as per Peter Carter's suggestion give me a shout.
I'll provide some local knowledge etc, etc.
    Cheers.

  • I grew up there and went to the Grammar School or King Edward's as was.

  • Here is the Burnham Deepdale one.

It might not like single men

    This is the Wells one.

They are increasingly ambivalent towards tents .
