  • Sounds like a dead rim... and replacements are not cheap :-(

if it's a new rim and the bike shop can't get it round, try another bike shop? 3-4mm is quite a lot, is there a low spot opposite the bump where you could reduce some spoke tension?

It's unfortunately okay around the rest of the rim, so I'm guessing that it's dead. It's gone to another shop, who've confirmed it's knackered, which is a shame as somebody's tried to put a new rim on, and er, failed.

Oh well, I'll return them. Thanks for the advice. :-)

  • Hi Guys,

I put my bike into the rear of a taxi the other week and have put a bit of a dink in my Spinergy Rev X, it has a metal break surface and has been knock out of true by 4/5mm, there are no cracks in the carbon so would this be something I could get fixed or is the wheel knackered?

    Cheers

  • 4-5 mm if there is no damage is truable

  • spinergy sounds a bit knackered. Not really anything you can do about the wobble as the spokes were glued and riveted. If there are no cracks and it doesn't feel too bad when you ride it then leave it as it is but remember to check it often for any cracking as they can collapse quite spectacularly

  • So before I Spend half an hour trying to give Evans my details in order that they might give me the pleasure of giving them £36 for them to true my wheels, any forumgers fancy taking my Real Cash Money and doing it for me?
I have a spoke key and I did try but I do not have the dexterity or patience and ended up gouging one of my children's eyeballs out with the spoke wrench in frustration. My wife has now confiscated it.
Wheels can be in Liverpool St during the day or Se7 at night (or during the day too really)

  • Actually, just looking at one rim, if there is localised bulging near the spokes, that's not good is it? It's a DT swiss rim too, so not rubbish...

  • Where is best to get a wheel looked at in the way home from central to SE?

Nothing serious, it's just out of true.

Given that I'm in SE7, and possess truing stand, spoke key and an overinflated sense of my own abilities, very happy to take a look.

(That applies to @TTM as well, if the geography works.)

  • I like the guys at seabass. Depending on how busy they are they'll often have a quick turnaround on simple jobs like that.

Edit- just seen your comments 6days old, I'm sure you've sorted it already!

  • Thanks for this, but have actually decided to rebuild and replace the rims now.

  • That would be great..thanks, I'll pm you; hopefully we can inflate your self worth even further.
