No official group, but people often meet there after work randomly.

Just seen that LMNH in Hackney has closed!
http://www.lookmumnohands.com/blog/lmnh-mare-street-is-closedReal shame that. I used to go relatively frequently when i lived in Stoke Newington, but not been for ages now I live South. I always preferred the Old Street one though.
I really hope that they find a new location soon, keep their staff in work and business in a healthy state.

Ridiculous rent increase innit.

Rent increase is one thing,
But also from previous employee who work there, business wasn't that great at Mare Street compared to the Old Street.
I am sad, but not suprised.

It seemed popular for weekend 'let's do brunch and take a picture of our flat whites' crowd, but I imagine it would have been very quiet in the week.
And @fussballclub, yeh, 400% i think it said! Hackney innit.

A developer is going to start building a new student housing block on Stratford High Street this year. The proposal states that there will be a new LMNH in the building:

Can anyone confirm or deny this?

I went into Look Mum a while back. It had been a long time. It was late lunchtime - about 2pm.
They told me that they wouldn't be serving lunch for another 40 minutes - i.e. 2.40pm. Wut. Also they have stopped doing their scotch eggs, sausage rolls etc. They seem to want to be a pub these days.
They've just announced a new 'kitchen' in Whitechapel with no workshop. So it's less a bike cafe and more a, erm, cafe.
They seem to have lost their way a bit, which is a shame. The bike bit was their whole USP, surely?

I'm sure that most of their profit comes from catering, so I don't blame them to direct their forces on that side of the business.

When was the last time we had a forum event at LMNH? It's our fault as much as anyone's.
-
• #2089
when it became too expensive to do so.
If you go in now it seems no-one there is a cyclist, so i can see why they dropped that part and went with the people that will spend lots of money.
-
• #2090
Do you mean that they dropped it for the one in Whitechapel?
The last time I went into LMNH Old Street, it still had all its bike bits (although, admittedly, that was months ago).

(Nothing to do with them, I just haven't been in the area much.)

I agree with #fucklaner it feels a lot more like a cycle-themed coffee shop now, in the vein of the 'traditional irish' pub rather than a true 'cycle cafe' as the only cyclists I see in there now are the guys dropping their bike off at the workshop (though I've only been in a few times lately so small sample size and all that).
but sitting outside lmnh now the entire area has gone 'up-market' and rather than being down the road from the trendy bit, it's now in it so it's not surprising the balance of clientele has tipped in that favour.

I should probably add both times I've been in the last 2 weeks I was not on my bike.

I pretty much only go there to buy coffee beans if it gets to the evening before I realise I've run out at home.

Rumour has it that one of the sports giants is trying to buy the Building so if true this maybe a way of an increased offer..
-
• #2099
Not being a native londoner I tend to go there if I'm in the city (not that often)
I quite like it in there, hard to tell if the people in there are cyclists or not, I certainly won't be dressed like one if I'm in there as I'll be in work clothes.
