They did ban Russia from the Olympics.

The Russians had effectively implemented a state sanctioned doping programme, I’ve seen no evidence that the same is happening in Colombia. They clearly have a problem, but it isn’t clear if it’s across all sports, or supported by the Colombian Government.

In Icarus they suggest the IOC didn't go as far as WADA wanted.
All the different stake holders make this stuff quite confusing.

That's where it gets political and the sports bodies will not want to burn their fingers. So they just keep on suspending individual athletes.

Only a few specific athletes who could show that they had nothing to do with official Russian programmes were allowed to compete as independent athletes.

Yeah someone got an exception for the last Olympics. Presumably they could show they trained outside the 'gear on your weetbix' national system. They then backed down making the whole thing pointless.

...and completely shafting the athletes who hadn't taken the gear, making them look like traitors to Mother Russia...

Salbutamol isn’t exactly performance enhancing. Only so if you’re feeling shit from asthma.

Maybe, maybe not. But there is a limit in place and Froome has broken that.

Poor medical advice or carelessness may be the root cause, but it’s not good for Froome or the sport.
