  • They seem to have reinstated 2 of them, but not the other 2. It should be 4 right?

He still got his knighthood too, that might be a bit embarrassing if it's not just hacking...

  • Interesting timing for this news drop: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/38588913

  • Saw that on the Sport section of BBC News 24 last night. The amount of coverage given was amazing. It was literally 2 sentences and they then onto something about the Ryder Cup...

  • Meanwhile, rugby players continue to happily return to the sport after drugs bans with literally no censure from the game's press.

I do love the sport, and it (league) has its own problems over and above the use of PEDs, but still...

  • Imagine the howls of outrage if that was Team Sky

  • Nicole Cooke's written submission to the Committee for Culture, Media and Sport;

    http://data.parliament.uk/writtenevidence/committeeevidence.svc/evidencedocument/culture-media-and-sport-committee/combatting-doping-in-sport/written/45898.pdf

Say what you like about Cooke, but she is absolutely on the money about the endemic sexism in UK sport.

  • Ooft. Powerful stuff-Nicole Cooke is bang on rights, it certainly makes BC look like a nepotistic boys club.

  • Good on her, she's really sticking it to them :)

  • Except she's offered nothing new in the way of information, has aired the same grievances she airs every time she gets a platform and a lot of her accusations are well beyond the statute of limitations so there is absolutely no point in pursuing them now.

She's absolutely right about endemic sexism in sport though, but British Cycling can't fix that alone, it needs major reform across all sports and using UK Sport funding would be a good way of beginning to address it.

  • Nah, but this doping thing is in the public eye, so I don't blame her for using it to further her cause and she'd light on the endemic issues (outside of doping) within BC.

  • What was Brailsford's involvement with David Millar's drug cheating?

  • Signed him up as endurance coach while still under suspension and against the ethics of employing drug cheats although after reading Nicole's statement he wasnt the first .

  • He was having dinner with Millar in Biarritz when the police arrested him.

  • Cooke: (TUEs) "was a very convenient way to mask a doping program"

  • was. She does continue by saying this, though:

Eventually the authorities have acted to tighten up the issuing process, but current with that is the move that makes usage of these drugs with PED side effects, legal in OOC use. The significant majority of an elite athlete’s time is spent out of competition. One gate was closed but a bigger one opened.

    And continues:

Of concern are the TUEs issued by the Team Sky/British Cycling medical team for this same steroid. Perhaps, the more relevant question, rather than the strange coincident chronology of the ailment, is to ask the BC/Sky medical team how often has this steroid been issued to athletes out of competition. Is it used properly - to help recover from career threatening injuries or has it ever been used to assist athletes losing fat and gaining power in the out of competition preparation for major events?

  • I don't think using a TUE 3 times a year would be enough to cover up a doping program either.

  • I have no idea what "legal in OOC use" means. With a TUE? An easier to obtain TUE?

  • OOC - out of competition. Some drugs are banned in competition, but can be used out of competition. Cocaine, as an example.

No TUE is required to take these if you're only using it out of competition, but it needs to be out of your system before you compete again, otherwise you can fail a test. Sometimes, as an insurance policy, a TUE is applied for just in case it hasn't cleared before you race again.

  • Ha, I got what OOC was (but ace example). Just wasn't sure if it meant: acceptable, but only OOC with a TUE; or acceptable, no TUE needed.

If the steroids are that powerful it does sound sketchy. But everything sounds sketchy until an expert explains why it's not.

  • Anyone from the Jamaican team NOT test positive yet?

    Bolt, Armstrong for the track.

  • With trump denying johny foreigner access to the usa i wonder how athletes from the nike school will perform?

  • I'm sure they can (or already) do outreach clinics in Kenya
