  • Baby doping...what's this all about...do they inject essence of baby...anyone got a link or explanation? I thought baby medicine was calpol, is that on the banned list too?

  • #3683

  • I find diapers aid with saddle sore

  • Baby doping...what's this all about..

Basically intravenous feeding, it's for babies who fail to thrive on oral nutrition, adding amino acids directly into their blood to allow them to synthesise proteins. Not sure why an adult with a healthy digestive system would get any benefit compared with just eating protein, but I suppose there might be some marginal gain in recovery.

  • @JonD the stuff itself is not banned, needles are.

@mdcc_tester I guess it would be enough to just believe strongly that it would work. pro bicycle racers remain a rare breed, constantly searching for that little edge some witch doctor can give them and doing stupid things.

  • isn't there a no needle policy that intravenous feeding would be in clear contravention of?

    http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/uci-approves-no-needle-policy

The UCI Regulations now prohibit injections that have the aim of artificially improving performance or helping recovery. It means riders can no longer inject vitamins, sugars, enzymes, amino acids or antioxidants to aid recovery. It is hoped the ban will contribute to the eradication of doping by greatly reducing the use of injections in cycling.

  • Are people really scraping the doping barrel now, or what?

  • Is the consensus view amongst the cycling cognoscenti that Sky really are clean as a whistle?

You can't really tell on all that black kit. I bet they come home from rainy rides as filthy as anyone would.

  • It would be in clear contravention of the policy. But, in the Van Avermaet case, it reportedly pre-dates the needle ban and, without direct evidence of injections, how do the authorities prove it?

  • It's ok, he's been quoted as saying "I think I'm a clean rider".

  • oohhh, lots of Tiger Woods shit flying around, Nike really can't catch a break can they.

  • I wouldn't call Hippy a businessman, really.

  • I'd want to be a lot fucking faster than I am if I was on gear!

  • Masters racers, over 40s, they're often getting popped. Loads of them are ex-pros so they probably still have a fridges full of blood bags..

  • The report doesn't reveal anything new though, feels rather underwhelming, and begs the question where does the sport go now.

  • I couldn't teally make head nor tail of R4 Today's treatment of this subject this morning.

"Guess what? Cycling's still full of drugs" seemed to be size of it.

If we all just ignored them they'd have to go out and get proper jobs.

  • It reveals that young riders still don't want to talk to the UCI about doping.

David Millar gets to have his photo taken again.

    Cookson's response:

Following criticism from David Millar of the report, Cookson said he was “disappointed” that so few riders currently racing had come forward to speak to the commission. “Some people have found it difficult to find a slot, but the commission was in existence for 13 months. There are clearly reasons why many current riders didn’t feel comfortable talking to the commission. There is a concern about the lack of trust among riders about anti-doping processes at the UCI and maybe that’s justified. What I would say is that if you are not doping, we will support you. Let’s find a way of getting riders to step forward. The lack of current riders contributing to CIRC indicates we haven’t got a mechanism in place.”

To that end, the UCI will set up a “whistleblower” system, “staffed in a way that is accessible, attractive to someone who wants to give information”.

Only when they've got a trusted system of fessing-up will they get tip-offs about what doctors/riders are using – that seems clear to me.

  • ^ Another detail was that 95% of samples taken don't get the box ticked on the form that allows them to be used for anonymous anti-doping research only testing.

  • I noticed that. Why would a clean rider not tick the box? Or a clean team not insist its riders do so? I'd like to hear what Brailsford and Vaughters say about that and whether Millar ticked or not.

  • Still reading and sexual abuse of female pro cyclists doesn't get a mainstream press mention. Fuxsake :(

  • sexual abuse of female pro cyclists doesn't get a mainstream press mention

Doping is the cycling story. Sexual abuse of athletes by coaches etc. is for another day, when all sports can be included. I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of sport related stories when (if?) the Butler-Sloss Woolf Goddard Enquiry gets going.

  • Same reason I don't tick the box when Google ask if I'd like to share anonymous data about my usage of this or that. Because, why?
