As it's a route I do quite regularly, I'm in. Though it'll probably be hangover dependent.

I like cycling up there. The towpath bits aren't the best on a fixed gear, but later on it's great.

This looks like it could be the perfect first forum ride for my daughter (she is 17 months old and will be in the kids seat on the back of my bike)

I hope your daughter is branded - people get slated if they have anything on their bikes that ain't Nitto or Campy.
Fixie skidder nursery run FTW!

Has that child seat got an ejector button?

The weather isn't looking great for Saturday at the moment. I don't think this is the most pleasant ride in the rain, so if it stays like that, I may have to look at postponing it. We will see later in the week.

It's a nice ride, there's a bit where the going is a little tougher on your arms as the path is ropey (around the north circular underpass for a mile of two) but once past that, it's lovely

My arms wobble like a fat womans chicken wings... Im going to hate this part

Ok, so there is some rain forecast for Saturday, but sunnier on Sunday.
Would people be happy with Sunday, or for it to be moved to some other time?
Personally Sunday isn't amazing for me, I need to be in Oxford overnight, but if needed I can probably make it back to be at the start point for 12.

I saw a fixie wixie couple riding up past Tottenham marshes just the other day, matching red and blue lo-pros, courier bags and incredibly slow....how romantic.
It's a great weekday ride, have used it frequently in the winter for training on mountain bike, a good fifty miles there and back, there's no red lights, few walkers at that time of year and on a weekday usually don't have to stop at all, unless you want too....
Also leave a crayfish trap on the way out, pick it up two hours later on the way back...free crustaceans for dinner!
This will be a slow paced social ride along the River Lee, starting at Victoria Park, and going up the canal as far as people want to go.
Starting place will be East's pub in Victoria Park.

Cheshunt is about 16 miles

Broxbourne is about 19

Ware about 25
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=ware&sll=51.749352,-0.022659&sspn=0.021415,0.060596&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Ware,+Hertfordshire,+United+Kingdom&t=h&z=13
Hertford is a few miles further than that.
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=hertford&sll=51.750042,-0.022659&sspn=0.020086,0.060596&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Hertford,+United+Kingdom&ll=51.793116,-0.078964&spn=0.021394,0.060596&t=h&z=14
All these places have direct and pretty cheap trains back to Liverpool Street, so people can either stop when they want, or go all the way to Hertford. And of course if people are up for it we can just cycle back.
As it's all towpath, a lot of it is fine gravel or paving, but some of it is tarmac as well. I've ridden there many times on my fixed with 23mm tyres, it's fine, but bring whatever bike you think is most suitable.
Between the possibilty for stopping at the various nice pubs along the river, and the fact that we will have to be considerate to other towpath users this is not going to be a fast average speed, so bring your sunscreen, some beers, and enjoy the day.
The usual rules apply, make sure to bring equipment to fix punctures, nothing too unusual unless you are capable of fixing it, etc.
There is no point doing this unless the weather is nice, so if it's crap on Saturday I'll move it to the Sunday, or if it's crap both days move it to another time.
