Bad time to get into the industry if you don't have all your relevant NPTC qualifications already/prepared to spend at least a year in college.
If you're not qualified you're looking at around £60/day cash if you're lucky enough to find someone who'll take you on.
Will cost you about £2k in training/equipment at least to get you to a position where you can start earning a bit more. Then you have to choose between working for a large contractor - city suburban, gristwood & toms, treecare etc. Park service(some boroughs are in house) or do what I do which is work for an independent firm.

For what its worth it's a bad time at the mo, some firms have gone under recently and the big firms are taking all the formally cushy council contracts and turning them round in half the time which means the quality is sloppy.
Oh, it'll also fuck your lower back, make you deaf, give you HAVS and turn you into a grumpy, embittered woodbutcher.
If you just want to see what its like them pm me and come out for a day with us. I guarantee we'll break you.

Interesting. I was up at Capel manor on Saturday at the celebration of trees.. Was looking at an apprentaship with City of London in Epping forest. Also looking at doing my CS30/31 fairly soon too. Shit to hear that it's a bad time though! I'd be up for coming out for a bit of "experience"
