  • Also in! Have bike and mallet but first Tues eve session at Newington...

    **Tue 12 Nov - Newington
**1. Ben (BRodrick) - no bike, no mallet

    1. Miles - no mallet
    2. Suzie - no bike
    3. Ed
    4. Jojo
    5. Jackie
    6. Alexandra (new bike)
    7. Beth
  • Is that en route for anyone?
Don't think miles is coming now. I am, but no bike or mallet... what a loser.

  • Sweet - lots of new bikes tonight!
I only have one spare mallet. Maybe Ed has a spare...

  • I'll bring 2 mallets, happy to loan both out when I'm not playing too

  • Ben failed to mention golf clubs for shafts which a couple of people swear by and also bamboo, which kinda work... If you don't mind having a disposable mallet and having a bit of a ball ache on how to attach the head.

Don't bother with walking poles or anything telescope... It's been tryed and failed.

  • Where is everyone?

  • Had to work late, on my way now

  • Hey cheers for all the advice guys! I though buying an old golf club for £1 or something might be quite a good route. Like the bamboo idea though as well!

    cheers!

Hope the session was good, sad i missed it. M

  • Where is everyone?

    how was the new ride?

Can't remember if I did a bolt check, so I hope nothing fell off ;)

When I said some people swear by golf clubs I should add I'm not one! You can get a good wip with one, but they aren't really strong enough to lean on.
Bamboo is probably the lightest material you can use for a shaft, but it splits lengthways and it's hard to find long and wide enough (as the nurse said to the vicor)... Part of the problem with splitting is it's hard to join a head to bamboo without it either not being secure enough or splitting the bamboo.

  • Netballers are there every Tuesday over winter from 5.30-7.30pm so we should either start later or have beginners a different day perhaps Thursday.
Footballers are on the other court and they also finished around 7.30pm this week.

  • Hi guys,
Is there a beginner session near stoke newington anytime soon?

  • Hi guys,

    hi JamieLewis,

Beginners' sessions are on Saturday mornings (10am) at London Fields (in the MUGA, right in the middle of the park) and onTuesday nights at newington gardens, Harper Rd (SE1) - it is important to check back here on the day, if the sessions are going ahead.

(there are regular sessions north east, maybe after you had a few goes at beginners; these are at Hackney Downs and on Mitchison road (off essex road) and newington gardens. (check the threads)

hey, Jackie, maybe give a shout to Ben Beagle (he is the Beginners Officer) about this, re-establishing a regular day could be tricky - but obviously whatever the decision/proposal get Beagle on board.

  • nice game yesterday... thanks for your help with my bike!

  • any 'beginners' coming along tonight? does anyone have an old/spare 26" front wheel for sale they could bring? mine has been banished to the bicycle graveyard.

Shall do. I am sure he will read this thread but if not I will pester him.

Hugo - maybe try posting about your wheel on the main polo forum where non beginner types will read it.
