9:30am Lois, be there then if you can!
Did you ever get that crankset? You should ask Louis (khornight2) about a possible flip-flop setup. Although I think your dropouts are shorter than his.
The simplest thing I did was aim for the same number of teeth (one ratio is 32x12=44 teeth total, the other is 28x18=46... Originally I was 28x17=45). If you can work out two ratios that are the same number of teeth they won't use exactly the same amount of chain, but they will be close enough.
If you want to be totally accurate there are chain length calculators out there and the maths isn't too hard (as long as you can work out circumfrance of a semi circle and the hypotonuse of a triangle)...
An easier short hand is that of two sets of gears with the same number of teeth, the one closer to 1:1 (ie the polo one) will require less chain. So aim to have more teeth onyour polo gear.
Also set up the one with the least teeth first and set it up so it's at the edge of the drop outs... It's easier to remove another link than add one in! :)

Ok thanks Louis, I'm going to see how this set up goes for now but will probs come back to flip flop.
I'm just hanging on at home a bit seeing what the rain is saying.

I've got five used mallets to donate. Could they be kept somewhere or by someone and used as loaners? They are fairly well used, but all of them will work. The heads are getting pretty used, but they could be replaced. I could probably find some extra (new) HDPE to donate with them too.

Speaking of which...lets have a session guys! Who's in this Sat? (early doors I know)

Not sure yet if I can make it this Saturday, but last time I came out there was a shortage of mallets. The London Bike Kitchen is starting up some polo-centric workshops and has a guided mallet making workshop with all materials and tools provided on Dec 3rd.

The Bike Kitchen is great and the snacks are usually homemade!

That is worrying for so many reasons! £50 to build one mallet? A brand new proper polo head, pole and fixings will not cost more than £20 so you are essentially paying £30 for someone to show you how to put it together. Not only is that bad value for money, it is really not in the spirit of polo! You can buy polo equipment directly from the LHBPA or Magic Bike Polo (London players company) and any experienced player can show you how to make mallets.
I have four loaner mallets to bring on Saturday but most beginners have been given one to borrow and they need to remember to bring it with them each time!

Talking of that, I've got a couple more mallets to donate to beginners. I'll bring them on Saturday.

This is a reasonably good instructional on mallet building. You don't need a fancy fixing system. A m6 nut and 50mm countersunk m6 bolt will do. And use a ruler to get your holes for the shaft central. All the rest is available through magic, lhbpa or throw-in -

I understand that the Bike Kitchen is paying for their rent, bills, tools etc, but fifty quid for putting together a mallet is a bit much.

Depends how many mallets you get out of it, and what heads they are supplying.

^ There's 2 options 1: cheap and chearful (with gas tube head) £30 or 2:delux with a proper head £50 from the wording it seams like you get one mallet.
