  • Ooo, klkl, I'm think 'bout putting a 26" on the front to give clearance for a fatter tyre, would need some chunky calipers though.

  • For those with short pull levers (road) who have long pull brakes (MTB, v-brakes etc) you will need a travel agent to give you that extra pull. It fits instead of a noodle on to your v-brake.

Might be able to find them cheaper:

Rik makes good double levers for £30. Pm him.

Or if you want to DIY, buy a shimano deore lever, Avid 7's or similar, and a London odyssey mod, and follow my instructions ^^

  • Rabid?
    Pot + Kettle?

Kev, how much for rechargeable batteries please?

Heh, every time I check through the threads on this forum it seems like you are buying some new piece of kit. All good with me though, support the economy by buying loads of bike parts. My new bike is a big outlay alright but I had that yellow frame for years and didnt ever put much new stuff on it..

I completely forgot you were looking for batteries for the stereo, it passed me by. PM me if you want me to get them for you, its no hassle, but I dont tend to read all the threads as much as before.
Two C rechargeables are six quid, either energiser or duracell (both 2500 mil amp hours) and the memorex ones are six.fifty for a pair (4000 mAh, probably worth the extra 50p). There are other brands but they are more for industrial uses and you are looking at twice the price.
It was size C you were looking for, right?

  • Nice one Kev.
The extra 50p and mAh sounds good.
However this thing takes 8x C batteries, and we'll need a charger, so that's £26 just for the batteries so you could probably round that up to £40 to get the charger as well. :-s

    Or there's these

I'd say we need to do this as cheap as poss.

    Thoughts people?

    EDIT: Charger for £6

  • PS your bike is totally awesome and you deserve it.

I do buy some nice kit you're right, I also sell my old kit as well. It's like moving up the property ladder. :)

What do people think of this? It'd be about £220 including custom, VAT and whatever else this country charges for importing goods from outside the EU.

  • For polo? Total madness!! Though deep rims build into nice strong wheels, there's also a big surface area to get dented to shit by the ball. Plus they're super pricey. And no braking surface = squealy while you wear one in.

I've got a mismatched polo wheelset you can have for £30. Both are black low profile machined rims, hubs and spokes. Front is 2x (will probably need a disc), rear is 3x. Rear also includes an 18t freewheel. Both wheels need a minor truing (LBS will do it for about £15), but plenty of polo life left in them.

  • ExTra, I honestly think you should try polo a lot more before spending money on it. I know building polo bikes is awesome (see DublinKev's dig at me further up) but until you get a feel for your game and the sort of bike you want, you'll be wasting money, and I'd hate to see that.
Hang around polo a fair bit more and you'll see what's good for you and then you'll know what to buy.
eg 26" wheels are better (if you've got the frame for it).
There is also a school of thought that deep rims will take more impact and therefore bad.
And, for £200 you can have my whole bike which is awesome and polo ready.

  • Do you know what, I think I am trying to do some retail therapy here, stress, stress and stress... Maybe buying beers to share would be a more joyful way of spending my money?

You are right, £200 + for a set of wheels is a lot for now... or for any other time...

  • De-stress by playing polo. :)

  • Great idea, play play and play before the docs chop my leg off. <- that's a joke by the way, but likely to be off my bike for a while soon. :-(

You're welcome to come and play in Sheffield!

  • You're welcome to come and play in Sheffield!

Anytime as long as my train tickets are sponsored by the Sheffield lot! ;-)

  • I've got to say that I disagree with the anti deep section sentiment above, I've had 2 checkers die on me, both from hits to the braking area, so would have had the same effect on thinner rims. But I've played quite a lot where I think the deep section is what's been stopping my wheel from collapsing (when your wheel actually has 26 spokes instead of 36 and of those 26 four are just hanging there...)

Having said that £220 from the states is way to much when a similar wheelset from blb will be about the same (and easier to go back if you've got problems).

  • Yep, that's why I've said there's a school of thought. Some agree, some don't.
Still crazy to spend that money on polo wheels until you've played a decent amount and you know what you want, and some would say still crazy to spend that much on polo wheels.

  • I've a set of 30mm deep v's and they have taken a lot of abuse from me and before that PK had them.

Rebuilt with some new spokes and there still rolling relatively true (they might roll even better if my wheel building skills were up to scratch).

  • Ok, so the lever I got to mod doesn't fit on my bars -.- It's 22.4mm and the bars are 23.5mm. Caroline, what's the clamp size of the Promax? That website doesn't include it.

  • 22.2mm, standard for mtb bars. How are your bars 23.5?! I've got some 22.2mm bars for sale too if you want.

  • Fuck knows, they're some cut down bullhorns to flats, from a charge somethingorother.

Does the clamp on the promax have any give? Might have to find a 31.8 clamp size brake and just space it out :/

Well, mine are chukkers, with sapin strong spokes, on blb/halo hubs. Not cheap, but so worth it. Nonetheless, it took me a year of playing to buy them.

  • I've gone for the soft low section rim (A319's, DTS Champion2 spokes) approach but I wish I'd gone for higher spoke count. Otherwise it's good, easy to tru. I do have a flatspot already, though...

  • Paul lever on and badly cut wheel covers on, wooty-toot.

  • If anyone has some old cranks with a granny ring, square taper, for the loaner that be awesome. We haz monies.

  • I have some pedal straps made by the fair hands of Wicksie for sale.

Only used once, can be yours for just £5!!!

  • Woohoo... Got my bmx cranks on and my bike is ready to roll!! Apart from my freewheel is gonna explode anytime... Anyone got the necessary freewheel tool(s) I could borrow tomorrow to replace it?
