  • Are you sure you've got a fuji roubaix?

    Only it looks quite a lot like the mech hanger for a specialized roubaix from a few years ago..

    Can't find a shot of the other side of it tho'...

  • Other than flattening it fitting it to your bike, it may give again as it is now fatigued sending you rear mech into your wheel.

    He bent it by dropping it on to a wall. If you think bending it back again will stress it that much then you obviously don't know much about the properties of steel.

    In my defense I have only ever owned bike with steel frames so it just never occurred to me.

  • after some talk/email with various fuji people ive managed to get a pair of them sent over from Germany, should be here any day. £16.50

    that specialised one is very similar but has a diffrent cutout on the other side.

  • I have a 2006 fuji roubaix pro, again pretty rare in the uk, and I think my hanger is bent too. Who did you get in touch with to find the replacement hangers? Could you point me in the right direction?

  • after replacing mech, cogs - and almost shifters, i'd noticed a gear set up that just didn't seem to sync in across the board was down to a misaligned hanger.

    so i've devised diy hanger alignment check and realignment

    top axle is a guide, bottom one (gold) is used to check, and if necessary, adjust the hanger alignment. nuts either side of hanger to help brace it and not damage thread - the thread in hanger is the same as the axle.

    check it's all parallel to the top guide alxe in both planes, (by measuring if need be)

    alternatively you can look at where the hanger hole would be if there was a hanger on the left dropout- if there was a dropout on the left, a correctly aligned right hanger would allow me to thread the alxe in at the right and it would met the hole on the left one

    you could make a template from the right hanger as guide if you really wanted, or again - just compare measurements from the right side.

    adjustment is simply a matter of pushing - or whacking - the alignment axle (gold in pic) into place.

    one word of note: i adjusted the hanger then checked it - but now using a bent (gold in pic) axle (i'd bent it slightly during adjustment) i hadn't thought of that until taking it out and noticed it was bent

    so i'd advise - make your final alignment check using a different straight axle

    ordered online on sunday - confirmed processed and dispatched on monday, received on tuesday. not fitted to frame yet but look well made and is light.

    they have over 300 different mech hagers with pics and lists of known frame matches so well worth browsing.

  • For lack of a better place to put it:

    I can get my derailleur to index properly at either the top or bottom end but not across the entire cassette. Normally I'd guess this would occur as a result of the hanger being knocked out of alignment but I can't recall any incidents since it's started occuring that would result in this.

    Is there anything else I should check before purchasing a aligning tool?

  • Check your cabling.

  • Working at one end and not t'other is - in my experience - a sure fire sign of a bent hanger.

    Could have been knocked if your bikes been locked up somewhere or the hanger could be of weak design and a bad shift could have pulled it out of shape.

  • A large adjustable spanner, which locks well and isn't loose. I've fixed half a dozen bent hangers like this. Trick is to make small, incremental moves to get it back vertical and straight again. Done it by eye many times, and generally back to perfect or at least full function again.

  • Unless you have a rare hanger there worth just buying a couple and replacing, it's a breakable part to protect other parts of the bike so there usually quite cheap

  • ^ presumed its replaceable.

    Spanner will do but if you can (without buying the tool yourself) it's worth doing it with an alignment tool.
