  • my derailleur hanger has been bent after being knocked over and hitting a low wall. the hanger is removable from the frame.

are these things universal, as in can i just get an easy replacement, or should i leave it to the LBS to straighten it out?

the bike is a 2009 fuji roubaix. you dont see many of these about, so if the hanger is proprietry i think its unlikely ill find another. if this is the case how can i go about getting a diffrent hanger in there?

  • although there are many types they can normally be ordered, just take it into your lbs. If it's not too bent they can be persuaded with a special tool, as below

  • They're not universal. LBS will source one to suit frame or straighten (as above).

  • ive managed to manhandle it back into better shape with the use of a vice and an adjustable spanner. its still not right but at least i can ride it until i get the new hanger.

  • try betd.co.uk they have loads and will almost certainly have one to fit. although they arent universal, they are often common between a couple of frames. failing that any fuji dealer will be able to get you one.

  • go to nearest evans (they sell fuji (go before 5pm as most of suppliers close around that time), kindly ask sales assistant (if it is busy time leave your tel number, bike model, year, required part etc on a note) to ring fuji supplier to find out part number. Pay and wait for hanger to arrive. If it is special order it will take 5-10 working days for mech hanger to arrive, if hanger is in stock in their warehouse 2days.

  • well, it got worse. im going fucking insane not riding this bloody bike.

took the bike to my LBS today. the hanger is non standard and they cant get one in. it also couldnt be bent back to shape. they said they might be able to do somthing if they replace the chain, cassette and cable, but to be honest it shifted fine before so i dont see that this will solve the problem.

theyre good guys normally so i dont think they were trying to scam money out of me. but im pretty lost now.

what really worries me is that ive been all over the net and not found another like it. ive looked at thousands of bloody hangers.

ill contact evans tommorow, but the nearest one is a long way from me, and i dont trust them to get it right over the phone. its not like i can give them a model number, these things are bloody unlabled!

  • Contact Fuji?

Someone like Scherrit might cast one out of a melted down Ribble framset or something too.

  • Madison sell a huge range of mech hangers, I've never come across one I couldn't buy from them.
Sound like you've got a crap LBS as I cannot believe they don't have a Madison account.

Also I'd bet that your Fuji one is not only used on Fujis.

  • ive looked through madison, they dont have it.

ive seen lot of hangers for fuji that are very similar, but none the exact shape. im starting wonder if this really matters and just getting one thats very similar.

That sounds like a plan to me. Just out of interest, what exactly is stopping you from straightening the old one? Without actually having seen the dropout I realise I could be talking shit but I have usually been able to persuade steel into shape by gripping it at the right spot in the jaws of a vice or placing it on a flat steel block and hitting it with a hammer. Save cash and twat the fucker would be my fav option.

  • its just too messed up. its not only bent but twisted. im actually gonna give a go at bending it again as im missing options.

i plan to contract fuji tommorow, but im also gonna buy a very similar hanger and make it fit with use of a file.

  • Oh, and don't try to bend it. An enginneering/metal workers should be able to make one for you from the original.

  • " I ship to the USA only."

  • Reading fail.

  • ?

  • ive emailed betd, lets see what they can do.

heres what it actually looks like, sorry about the shit iphone pics:

  • I can't tell if it looks more like a seahorse or a duck.

  • Vulture hatchling.

  • that looks like a generic dropout. try condor

  • Of course it is. Why would anyone go to the trouble of designing a proprietory dropout for a mass-produced bike?

  • It seems to be flat-fronted so I would definitely have a go at it with a hammer on a flat steel block.
You have nothing to lose if you are planning to buy another one anyway.

  • Other than flattening it fitting it to your bike, it may give again as it is now fatigued sending you rear mech into your wheel.

    Yup nothing to loose/
