You should see what comes out of a Staffordshire Bull Terrier when it eats a three-pack of flavoured condoms...

Thanks, he seems to be revealing more of his character as he settles (becoming more playful and puppy like) but nothing to be concerned about so far. Tbh he has only been with us for three weeks ( 2 trial +1 one of oficial ownership) so we may wait and see what the next two weeks are like. What were the issues you faced? Hope you don’t mind me asking, was the treatment/therapy expensive? Also I hope to not open a big polemic but what dog insurance and vaccines do you guys recommend?

Pre-bagged turds?

A newly qualified EOD (bomb detection) dog* in my force, a few years back, ate a blue nitrile glove. It got very poorly very quickly and was saved by an operation. The treatment cost £11,000 which was a grand cheaper than the dogs training to that point, luckily for the dog. All ended well.

Mostly issues around reactivity to other dogs and humans because he wasn’t socialised. It’s particularly a terrier trait so you might have no issues.
It got worse with our dog because we didn’t know the subtler signs of him getting stressed and we were taking him to pubs etc and he eventually had a meltdown.
He was rehomed through a charity which had its own behaviourist - most do so its worth checking - but she was useless and did nothing to help him/us, possibly the opposite.
We’re now seeing someone else who seems to have got him on the right track. We pay £30 an hour so no small change.
That said, the whole experience has been really rewarding. I don’t think he was an ideal choice for our first dog but we’re lucky we’re able to invest lots of time in training him.
At the very least, a behaviourist will tell you what sort of training you should do with him. I know people with greyhounds and job one is usually to get their chase instincts under control.
Most vets stock one brand of vaccine. Ours uses Nobivac and we’ve had no issues. We’re currently using Petplan for insurance but it’s eye wateringly expensive at about £24 a month. Keep meaning to look at alternatives.

I’m not sure my old staffy would have been worth it. But not only did he survive this, he also necked a packet of 24 super strengh nurofen, which led to three days’ sleep

We have been pretty lucky, the kennel manager and the person in charge of home checks in London have been always super supportive. They also knew we were new to the breed and gave us a pretty easy 🐕 candidate: young, with no chase instinct (he was discarded from racing after young trials because he did not chase 😇) and used to both other breeds and humans.
We also are usually pretty quiet and have kept the dog away from most social outings so far (apart from close family joining in a few dog centered walks). We also tried (and luckily could) time it with quiet work times. So so far is all good (fingers crossed).
However we still have to slowly build alone time so we can actually start leaving him alone and go back to “normal”... so far the test have been ok (only minor clothing thefts and a broken blanket, the guy is a nester) -

Btw no idea of insurances so far but to a complete noob that seems crazy expensive (more like dog retirement plan), I hope there is not a size premium too😬

Does anyone’s dog eat Forthglade Just beef by any chance? {donated now}

So, visiting a toy poodle pup on Saturday. None of us honestly believe there will be any way to change our minds after that.

I really like poodles, just not what their owners do to them.

All the ones we know look exactly like normal dogs.

I wouldn't be suprised if Greenwich poodles were not representative of the overall poodle population!
I love their temperaments. Strong willed working dogs through and through.

We feed ours forthglade when we want a simple meal for them

The only one I knew was full sized and had epilepsy.
But I know what you mean.
Still not that keen on their muzzles... a bit pointy. But then I'm probably swayed by wanting something to match my chubby round face.

This is the beauty of dogs. They don't need to understand what they know.

Lovely!
I found a dried cat turd on top of my PC this afternoon. Clearly was a dangler that happened to drop off there. I love my animals.
