Yeah absolutely, we're really going to ease her into it and encourage her to choose it with lots of positive reinforcement. She wandered over yesterday and lay down in there for a while which was a bit of a shock!

Not an easy pill to swallow but things moving backwards are part of the parcel IME. Try not to think of it as a failure on your part or something more wrong with the dog and remind yourself you're very much in the still figuring stuff out phase (which may last a while!).
Regarding crate training and sleep i'd put this at the top of the list and forget about other stuff until you've had a few good nights sleep. When we hit the wall after 6 months we reached out to a therapist and the first thing they had us do was stop going out (because park walks had become to stressful) and focus on getting some rest/keeping Nori calm. I though that would be a nightmare but we're lucky enough to have a garden and it helped us find a lot of simple ways to keep her entertained without walks. We did lots of kong's puzzle games and sensory stuff and if i was in your position i'd be doing all those things in the crate to build positive association. Get good bedding as well, in the end we went with an old duvet and she loves burying herself in it. I'd also consider limiting the areas the dog can go in as it's a new house. Upstairs was out of bounds for at least a couple months.
On bad experiences with dogs be aware that can stick with them a while so after an altercation above a growl or bark you might want to consider street walks or non dog areas for a few days.

Thank you, some encouraging stuff in there - we've been keeping walks small and functional and keeping her downstairs on the whole so good to hear it's along the right lines! The concept of "emptying the stress bucket" we've heard about seems to fit with our experience with the dog so far.
We're lucky in that the intense experiences with other dogs weren't aggressive, it was play, but now Daisy just wants to be near other dogs as much as possible. When we get to longer walks we'll be back to limiting exposure to others as much as possible. She's just snuck back into her crate for a snooze!!

Pah, i thought you had real problems! Great to hear she's taking to the crate, i pulled the door of mine after 6 months and Nori still spends a lot of time in there by choice. They're denning animals after all.

New crate. May have oversized the order.
He seems much happier in there than the old one- volunteered to go in immediately.I’ve also never known a dog who pouts as much as this little mite. Second photo from the middle of a work day.

my uncle recently got a jack russell puppy and invited my mum up to visit this weekend but said benny couldn't come with her. I already had plans so couldn't look after him and when pressed why benny wasn't invited it was revealed they planned on leaving their 3-4mth old puppy indoors on it's own while they took the kids to a bonfire event all evening.
really fucking winds me up, why even get a dog if you're going to be a prick about owning it...

Wow!
Have you tried to educate? Maybe its just that.

Is your uncle normally an unfeeling inhuman twat? Did he leave his kids home alone when they were about 2? Some people shouldn't be allowed to have animals higher in the evolutionary scale than nematodes.
I am lucky in that all 4 of my dogs will run towards a fireworks display. My thoughts are with those whose dogs are traumatised by them tonight.

Otto was like that with fireworks when he was a puppy too but as an adult he's fucking terrified of the things.not sure what happened to make him like that!
-
• #3689
Ah shit, hadn't considered a change in reaction!
Hope Otto is ok this weekend

Didn't mean to put you on a downer! I'm sure it's not usual that dogs change their mind!

We just had a fireworks display in the garden (a couple of boxes of low noise ones to try to get the boy into the spirit without scaring him). Sally sat and watched giving zero fucks.
That said, a lot of my boat dwelling mates are in for a shit night - their dogs can’t deal with fireworks and loads of people go down to the marina to set them off. You can’t soundproof a narrowboat.

I have zero love for starbucks but how do you leave your dog unattended with a treat at home and then blame the place that gave you the treat after you left and went to a completely different location?
the poor fucking dog.

Some shitty news today - one of the local dogs we play with has gone missing. They had it off lead on Friday night while fireworks apocalypse was going on. And it's a recent Romanian rescue. Idiots, obviously, but feeling for them and the poor dog, who hopefully will turn up safe soon.
Medium sized brown mongrel, last seen running in the direction of Greenland Dock in Rotherhithe, in case anyone's on social media and sees anything.

fuck, hope it's ok.

So, she's been spotted a couple of times today around Greenland Dock woods, so that's great news - she's alive and local. Lots of people out looking for her this evening. Hopefully, just a bit of time for her to get happy enough to let someone approach her.

My dog is fine with fireworks but got shit scared last night at the big bunch of balloons that must've fallen from the sky and was just chillin next to the path on the way to the usual walk spot. He just outright refused to go past them, had to carry the bulky fucker on the way out and back, daft twat.

That is good news! Keep us updated please, sounds like such a horrible situation.
You probably know this, but Litter the crate with treats. So every time she goes in there, there are some treats to be found.
Odie was (is) a pretty lively puppy and with young kids, we found we’d often feel like putting him in his crate after he’d been a little shit. Had to really make sure we never sent him in there as a punishment: even if we were cross because he’d eaten an apple out of one of the girls hands or whatever, he’d be sent in his crate ‘nicely’ and then rewarded
