  • The colony have moved into the box and are building structure. I'm not quite sure what's happening with the brood that was in there, the individual pods look sunken which means those larvae might not make it, which is a shame but it's still early days, maybe they'll hatch.

    Ultimately, it will take. It's now an eduction, the mother hive is super strong and full of brood so they'll move into the extra space and extend. Eventually brood will be formed and a new queen will appear, that's when I disconnect and we have a new, independent colony.

    I'll take a pic for you tomorrow. 🙃

    It's great practice because I was planning eductions for all my well established hives in the spring. This way I've already got one going and I'll get two more happening in September.

  • I didn't know honey bees were protected in the US, although to say 'a protected species' suggests the author of the article doesn't understand just how many species of honey bees there are.
