Also the guy's full of shit. He hit something and the fork snapped. Big surprise.
"oh I was just riding along and my bike exploded killing my family with the flying shrapnel.. wouldn't have happened on a steel bike.. blah"
In the few "significant" crashes I've had, if my steel forks didn't fold, the alu bars did. I haven't written off a carbon component yet - even after a couple endo/over the handlebar-type prangs. You can't extend anecdotal incidents into a universal rule. If cheap carbon frames were that dodgy, the forums would be full of horror stories - I haven't noticed them? Bear in mind I'm kind of biased - I bought a Focus Cayo.

I've ridden and crashed cheap and expensive steel, cheap and expensive alu, cheap and expensive carbon.
After all that.. meh^1000.
Most stuff doesn't fail. If you crash you're gonna hurt anyway. That's about it.

the only thing i broke without crashing was expensive titanium.

+1 although titanium is invincible against crashes/evil/fire/bad thoughts/booze/recreational drugs/fear/icecream/the sun and even inlaws
FACT.

most people forget that you can`t tell if the money you spend actually goes into the manufacture
and R&D or is just profit. Why you should pay over £3k for a chinese made pinarello is beyond me. -

FACT.It's the only material I've not ridden. It scares me because it might be stronger than I am :)

I've got carbon chain and seat stays on my MTB, carbon forks and stem on my fixie-masher. They haven't broken.
Therefore carbon is fine.

That Saffa bloke has 2 carbon legs and he can run like the fucking wind.
Therefore carbon is fine.

i love all the anecdotal evidence in cycling -
i know someone whose shimano/campagnolo/sram groupset failed, therefore they are all shit
i know someone whose michelin/vittoria/continental tyre got a puncture, therefore they are all shit
no one i know rides a unipack so they have not failed on anyone i know, therefore they must be fucking ace

Sounds like sour grapes from Dolan/velodrome shop that after finally getting the Seta on to the market everyone is buying PX for half the price.
Storck, who know a bit about carbon, are happy using 12k on expensive bikes and specifically where stiffness is a quality they want to introduce. You know like on a fucking track bike.

check that on weightweenies.com first, quoted weights are rarely if never correct from manufacturers.. the chinese brand might quote weight for largest size and rossetti the smallest frame size?
don't know but worth lookin' into
Thats were I get all this crap from ;)
No way.. carbon forks ALWAYS break!!
Smallfurry's are made of imortalium. Stronger than the suns core, FACT.
Storck, who know a bit about carbon, .
My next frameset crosses fingers

Is it me or does that remind anyone of a pinarello?

The more I read that the more I see bullshit quoted as fact. Claiming EU manufactured carbon frames are more expensive because of 'quality' and not cost of labour or volumes produced.
British Cycling track frames would not be expensive (even if they were available for sale, which they are not) just because of the weave count of the carbon used in them.

I'm actually disappointed that it's so transparently shit even to a noob* like me.
*Who owns a PX and hasn't yet managed to snap it's puny12kweave like the shortbread biscuit it closely resembles :D

How long have Planet x carbon frames been about for anyway?
-
• #47
a few years, maybe 3?

There is always going to be a question over the long term life of carbon as it depends on so many factors (quality of initial materials, construction methods, UV exposure, etc)
although saying that the main consideration in my mind when i was choosing my current road bike frame was overall strength when used on a regular basis - I have seen to many carbon frames wrecked due to simple drops, crashes that aluminium or titanum frames would of survived.
you pays your money and takes your choice.
cheers - Tb :-)

I've got a 1991 giant cadex cfm3 mtb that hasn't disintegrated yet, in fact it rides real nice.
I also eagerly await delivery of a well old Look KG56 which I hope will also not disintegrate.
Fingers crossed.
:)
