succombs? the one where all our speed got scrubbed off because of the narrow railway bridge?
that was a nice walk. nicer than walking up the cross country. and nicer than walking up chalkpit. and the other one. -

that insight bought to you by Damian's Weekend Walks: Surrey

Succombs. Yes, that's the one. I didn't spot a bridge, but then most of what wasn't the pain in my legs passed by unnoticed.

The possibility of walking, even with gears, was widely advertised :/
I've done most of that route fixed, but 55" is a bit shit for group rides. And the descents.

That looks brutal.
It was undeniably brutal.

Scarlett: it was widely advertised, i just didn't have another option at this point in time.
i was prepared for a lot of walking today. i think that's why i was so cheery in it all. it's the descents that really bother me at the moment. thanks for showing us this ride, it was brutally brilliant.and thanks to everyone who waited patiently.
i'm bouncing numbers around right now but i might have a 500 quid at somepoint before the end of the year. maybe. :/

@ damo - I have a Frank Herety that you could 'look after' for me if it is the right size. Don't worry it is not my size. How tall are you? right now it is banbury with jonny's brother but it needs a new home. People 'look after' it for me over the years so I don't have to have it in the house. It was a beauty, proper old school steel with some decent componentry and even a titanium stem. it was hand built for a young rider and still has his name on the top tube. Needs a bit of TLC now. If it fit you and you liked it I'd let you have it for a couple of hundred. I really hope it is your size now.

I thought they'd get christened today.
@ damo - might as well save up till April/May. It'll all be fixed bikes and more sensible routes within a couple of weeks. Or mudguards and small rings. Or rollers/turbo, some music, and a big fuck off fan. And a splash of weight training or whatever your cross-training of choice happens to be.

The Autobus got round too. Leisurely pace 20 km/h 2h37. Those hills were pretty brutal, and the "pavé" section was surprising indeed. Did manage to completely sheer the 15 cog out of my cassette up Anerley though*. Fuuuuuuuuucccccccckkkkkk!
*Why do I always break things?
That'll be those paper thin 11 speed cogs.
Seriously though, that's nuts. Defective?

@ damo - if memory serves it's 55cm but my memory sucks. too many drugs back in the day
-
• #2067
you break things because you be a loser. simple.
might also be the lack of carbon on your bike. sort it out. -

@ damo - I'm 170 with short legs/long body, and have just about squeezed onto 55cm frames. Depends on TT length, but moreso how the 55cm ST is measured. My Burls is labelled a 55 (which happens to be the TT length), but that's the ST measured to the top of the ST :S In convential centre-to-centre measurements it's a 52, or convential centre-to-top, a 53. Fistfull of seatpost for retro points.
Do you get the special deal 6 month thing? I've never bothered joining a gym (and never will probably), but it seems good value.

normally 12 months you get a good deal. although if you trial a few gyms them it is highly likley that (when you don't sign up) they will send you very cheap 'please' come and join us entry. my gym reduced 20quid a month.

Oh lord. Do I have to join a gym now, as well as go cycling? Is that where I'll find my climbing legs?
And on another note, as I cycled through the rain pre-ride, I thought I should think about getting myself some mudguards. Any advice about which ones to get? Bearing in mind I have a teeny tiny frame. (yeah yeah utfs - too feckin tired, innit)
