Katu-e update - we got one at the sale price and are really happy with it
- I routed all the cables through the rack, but could still do with shortening long term
- put on a 700c pannier rack, fit is fine and also allows a light passenger
- The quill slipped a bit initially, but has been sorted
Feels like a lot of bike for £1600
To do:
- Dropper post

Velotric T1 ST. 36lbs 350w hub with torque sensor. Class I unlocked 25 mph 5 PAS levels. Looks and rides like a bike and jack the rack & 1/2 wald 137 basket.

Hi folks
Sorry couldn’t find a more recent thread, however my sister in law really wants an electric bike for Xmas and was hoping for some advice.
She lives in Lewes, near Brighton in Sussex…
It’s pretty hilly and she, despite being very fit and healthy hasn’t ridden about town that much.
She would like an electric bike for that extra support, I have no knowledge of these. Does not have to be fancy just reliable and long lasting…
I have a Brompton as well as some vintage SS junkyard pieces ( I love ) …. But in terms of electric, I have no knowledge…
Any ideas of the best basic models suggested would be ace ..
Big love always

I literally have no clue when it comes to Electric bikes ? If it were a really amazing model I can put in £150 ish quid, which she would match and if it were the perfect thing my brother could maybe match that… it’s just speculation, but at a guess…. But really depends on the tool / bike , any advice super welcome

Partner has the lower spec model, fit some mudguads (bit fiddly) and good to go... also paid much more than this.

Ah I just heard from her, she said it’s for :
‘It would be for Messing around town and going on bike rides with William ( her husband ) and the boys ( her sons) so those would be longer journeys but would happen rarely.’ -

Wow, that looks amazing .. I think, I’ll check, that even half that price may be more realistic for them

However, you think Vitus is a good brand?

For electric?

However, you think Vitus is a good brand?
Have nothing bad to say about it. You are largely paying for the Shimano Steps motor. It has a prefectly acceptable Shimano groupset with hydraulic brakes. The Vitus part is just the frameset and it is a bit of a tank.
It works for us, has good range and can take the battery off for charging inside. Been ridden 60-90 miles a week for 9 months now.
Possible downsides:
Likely want to change saddle and maybe the tyres.
Limited clearance, tyres can't go much bigger.
Mudguards needed an adapter at the back, otherwse OK to fit.
The handlebar and stem are one peice, if you need to change stem length, you'll need new bars too.Wiggle also has this up, not all sizes.. no idea on spec.
