Another question; what's people's thoughts around the ongoing GME/ AMC saga? If you head on over to certain Reddit subs people are claiming it's a no brainer however it's been trading sideways for a few weeks/ months now.
-
• #2853
steering well clear of that, they're just massive punts, not investments. And as Tenderloin said, it will be the army of starry-eyed retail investors who will be left holding the bag.

Patagonia vest tech stocks will get pantsed
hahaha. so true though and we have already seen it to some extent
-
• #2855
There's a bit of an undeclared vest war at my shop, Fixed Income has mostly shifted to Arc'teryx, Equity guys holding on to Patagonia... Rest of us think they're all twats for perpetuating the Midtown uniform.

burry predicted gme would be the outlier of the meme stocks, i treckon gme is still to do it's BIG jump upwards, amc got a hike from 10 - 70, gme has had little jumps but not the big one yet
next possible rise around the sept swap resets - coming soon ! i hope
the financials behind gme are very solid now too, no debt and cash in the bank, the basics make it a worthy company to invest in just on fundamentals, possible rival to amazon in the gaming / computer online space ?
it's good that the dodgy dealing of wall street are being exposed through these shareholder campaigns though, whether anything will be done who knows

possible rival to amazon in the gaming / computer online space ?
bold.
doesn't really look like a growth story at present.

the old board were said to be " not working in the best interests of the company " , by ....... burry himself, i believe, in a open letter he wrote to gme a year or two back. the next few quarters might show an upsurge in sales / turnover with the new ceo driving the company forward in a slightly different direction today, whilst also looking at the future of gaming with new digital technologies.
the new shareholders have also become loyal customers and there are a good number of them since january 31st 2021. all spending what they would have spent at amazon and other outlets with gme even if it costs a bit more. the brand loyalty will grow and possibly spread...... and since i've been typing this gme has dropped $2
bah, it's only dropping so the shorts can afford their sept quarterly swap reset payments

I’m on board with this assessment - underneath it’s a good transformation play, bringing in more lines and looking like they’re trying to reinvent second hand gaming sales through blockchain tech.
It (IMO) does have the potential to go for a good sized squeeze. It’ll require some actual rule enforcement by the SEC, and of course some failed margin calls to actually happen the short hedge funds. There’s been some suggestion that this could happen towards the start of September… but Reddit’s been calling for that for the last 8 months like a financial apocalyptic cult.

just needs a catalyst, whatever that might be, the 226% short in january hasn't just magically disappeared, may well have shrunk but still well oversold and at far lower prices than it is now.

I'm still sat on some GME just for fun. It's certainly made this year more interesting.
-
• #2862
Fee like this isn’t getting the attention it deserves.
Personally I’m as it’s summer I’m on a lighter gilet tip - so Patagonia wins out
-
• #2863
interesting; thanks.
i'm happy to watch from the sidelines.

• #2864
GME to the moon Baby!
I've thrown everything into the kitchen sink!
-
• #2865
Another GME hodler checkin in, to the moon
(In reality I have very little GME but one of my colleagues has a huge amount and just keeps buying, he keeps updating me that the mother of all squeezes in imminent, he is also still holding silver from the 2011 failed squeeze lol)

Rationale for Arc'teryx from the Fixed Income trading desk: "rotated out of Patagonia as there's little to no upside left there. Ventilation system has been kicked up to the max to completely refresh air within building every 40 mins, which when combined with only about 20% occupancy at the moment means it is downright baltic at the moment, Arc'teryx excels in these harsh conditions."
UK small cap equities analyst: "mate, its Patagonia or bust. End of."
Sums up their disparate approaches to fundamental research quite nicely I think.

I’m more concerned these are being called vests.
Gilet, surely? To distinguish from, er, vests
-
• #2868
Fair point, definitely gilets. Been speaking with too many 'muricans about this!
-
• #2869
Yeah that is fair - tomorrow it will be a Uniqlo gilet which I’ve gone long on as I’ll be back into the office and hit with some serious AC.
-
• #2870
Jokes aside AC was nice for about 15 mins on my first day back, by 10am hypothermia became a clear and present danger.
-
• #2871
gme had a good day today up ~ 33% at one point on no news, looks like a catalyst arrived ?!
here is a bit of research on that possible catalyst done a month back predicting the movement today, tldr : options from july ( a huge amount )
after weeks of negative press barely a mention of .......
" the one stock to avoid at all costs " motley fool aug '21

• #2872
Motley Fool adding to their stellar reputation. :D

• #2873
another cracking bit of research on gme ( rehashing lots of old ideas ( including the one above ) into a new mega theory for sept )
explaining all the big upward moves over the last year to swaps, options and otc trades, or maybe just complete coincidence .... you decidehttps://www.reddit.com/r/Superstonk/comments/pb22oj/the_puzzle_pieces_of_quarterly_movements_equity/
that's enough spam from me now, needless to say i'll be watching the ticker closely in the coming days. come on you little beauty

If GME moons the way reddit talks about it, I'm pretty sure we could end the need LFGSS donations.
Downside is i'm off to the Scottish wilds at the start of September, and would very much appreciate not missing all the action for want of signal.
-
• #2875
I'm enjoying watching it. Hadn't look at my account for a few days and just happened to look last night, nicely surprised!
I think both can be true Arkk had some hitters and their investment philosophy makes sense but valuations are frothy af
It will be the retail investors who get burned hardest in all of this - meme stocks and Patagonia vest tech stocks will get pantsed
