It's not available anywhere, is it?
It delisted from HK in May:https://www.vanguard.com.hk/portal/mvc/detail/etf/overview?portId=9587&assetCode=EQUITY##notices
https://www.vanguard.com.hk/portal/mvc/loadImage?country=HK&docId=34273... due to
the Manager’s publicly stated intention to implement an orderly
exit from its exchange traded funds business in Hong Kong and the exhaustion of
a process to identify a new investment manager -

this guy is really going for the dodgy market makers currently, and is shedding light into the dark corners ( pools ) of the financial system -

Had a tip that if you weren't able to maximize your ISA allowance in one year but had some shares in a general investment account, you can transfer up to the ISA limit of them into an ISA.
Has anyone done this?
I sold some shares to help with a deposit so have used all my CGT allowance for this year and don't really have spare cash to invest. Would doing that work without incurring any CGT liability? Not sure if that is a question for an account or someone like AJ Bell.
Cheers

You can't transfer shares from outside an ISA into an ISA. You could sell them and repurchase inside, obviously incurring the return trip costs.

What would people do with £20k if you are going to need to start drawing down on it in 2yrs time at the rate of ~£1k p/m?
Life Strategy 60% S&S / 40% Bonds for 18m, then start closely tracking it and taking out £4k chunks a bit before you need it? Or 100% S&S for 6-12m then start moving it into bonds? Or almost all in bonds?
Capital preservation is probably the most important thing. But at the same time when my kids Vanguard Life Strategy 100% S&S ISA is now at ~14% over a 2yr period which saw it at -20% it seems silly to leave it in a bank.
We have two lots of the full £20k allowance.

I'd probably do almost all in bonds, 2 years is a v. short time horizon.
If you're checking past performance it would be better to look at how many times the investment went up over a two-year period for the past 30 years. Not just the gain/loss in the last 2-year period.

Two years is too short and £20k isn't enough money. The £2k you'd get if you luck out is just noise. And the £2k you lose if you get unlucky will sting.
Can you pay off some debt / start drawing it down early?

I had a similar amount and timeline 18m - just stuck it in premium bonds. Won £500 in 3m

I have had a similar amount in PB for the last three years and have won half that in total. Strategy isn't working. I am looking for lucky people to hold the bonds on my behalf and then split the winnings...

Cheers all.
Good points. I guess I was think the draw down rate makes the investment horizon >2yrs.
Would anyone's view change if it was 40k?
Does anybody know why the Vanguard Total China ETF is not available in the UK? The only
option I see to get something with China is the FTSE Emerging Markets one but there it's diluted
by lots of other crap from all over the world.
