Pound will get more expensive on news of a deal in the short term. I think beyond that no one can tell you much more

Just realised we had things upside down in our heads so it's not a great time right now. Will hold off for now.

What’s the cheapest and easiest way to buy 100 shares in a company listed on ftse? There are some investor benefits we could take advantage or and the share price as halved in the past year (obvious reasons) and are now at the price where a punt and risk is affordable.

Freetrade has been pretty straightforward for me. Only platform I’ve used so can’t offer any comparison but I don’t have any complaints.
Worth checking they list the company you want to buy shares from as they have a limited selection.
Spam - if you use this link to sign up we both get a free share, feel free to ignore this if you think there’s a better platform.

Probably just so one of us doesn't feel aggrieved if the other gets a 'better' share

Got to say I'm incredibly unimpressed by Trading212 so far. Opened an account on 1st Jan and deposited £200 using their "Transfer Layer". Money came out of my bank straightaway but didn't show up in Trading 212. Thought that was a bit weird but as it was a bank holiday I gave it a few days.
Still nothing on 4th January so used the Contact Us on the website to say that the deposit hadn't shown up. Since then all I've received is an email saying they're busy and that's it. No option to actually speak to someone, there's no live chat on their app (despite the website claiming there is, turns out they've disabled it which is always a red flag).
Can't say it's the kind of service that makes me think I'd use it for a significant amount of money if they can't even deal with simple queries within a couple of weeks.

Weird, had no such issues. Tried calling them?

I put money into 2 funds, both by polar Capital, the technology fund and the biotech fund. Both up about 30% for me*
*For the kids as is in their JISAs
Tracking the rate is all you can do really.
Check if opening a revolut/similar account would beat the 0.35% transferwise fee, as you'd get an international transfer allowance at £x / month fee-free.
