Put your cash into the FAANG stocks and watch them exit Corona with +20%
-
• #1328
How much are Corona shares now? Buy low, sell high, with a slice of lemon.

One of my favourite parts of the internet. The idiocy is incredible at times....

Can you transfer between funds in Plum? Or do you need to withdraw and reinvest?
-

If you go to search then more appear than do ok the initial screens. About 2k stocks in total so not everything but more than it first looks like. Interactive Investor has a much bigger range of stocks and similar low cost model.

After ISA and pension allowance, what's left that's tax efficient?
NB not asking for me :(
-
• #1333
I'd have thought if you're able to put 60k+ away each year then a tax efficient thing to do would be get an advisor.
EIS is pretty tax efficient. Assuming the startups you're investing in don't collapse.
-
• #1334
It's a one off for this year only apparently...but yeah I think an advisor is a better bet than internet forums.
-
• #1335
if it's a one off - have you (they) filled their last 3 years pension allowance?
There is also an annual dividend and capital gains allowance - depending on how much is invested outside pension/isa it may not get taxed anyway
-
• #1336
If it's a one off wouldn't you just put it in some taxable S&S account, realise the max free CGT threshold or whatever each year and transfer to ISAs when possible in the following years? You're only taxed on the gains, dividends and/or interest so unless it's a serious sum or they're expecting massive gains or income in future it doesn't seem worth worrying about the tax.

All good stuff, thanks both!

Anyone thinking of getting back into airline stocks and watching them take off over 2021?
-
• #1339
Seems way too risky for a punter like me. Better work from home policies could decrease business travel, could be enhanced restrictions if no vaccine is found, constant looming threat of people waking up to the climate emergency.
Obviously all those things are what make it a good buy right now but I don't have any spare cash to throw at it and even then, which airlines do you pick? Some are bound to fail to adapt.

I think the smaller carriers will go or be consolidated, especially by those ex national airlines that will be state funded to survive and are in alliances. BA, American, Iberia look like decent bets on a 24mth view
-
• #1341
I would guess easyjet and ryanair are 'better' bets then AIG.
Far less complex and more flexible to supply/demand without the complexity 0f long haul operations and legacy issues. -

True but those flights are low margin, low revenue and will require the EU to act like a block and assume everyone in the EU has the same Coronavirus risk profile and thus can travel freely between countries.
I think that travel will become more expensive as a result of the virus and holidays will be further apart and grander, and more likely to be long-haul to 1st world countries which will benefit bigger airlines. This is my hunch.
It's as likely as any other to be totally wrong though.

With all the civil unrest at the moment I was considering getting into some Defence Stock. Had a look and entry into Blackrock and BAE are quite inviting right now.

Planes, oil, defence. Love this most ethical of threads. :P
Can anyone suggest a kitten-murdering plastic-burning seal-clubbing petrochemical plant that needs funds for expansion? I'm lacking one of those in my portfolio.
is this the meme thread now?
nice dad joke TISWAS !
