• Great work Poindexter.

  • Btw, I think it's awesome you are doing this, and personnally I hate the shake too undo thing, basically I always say no when it asks if you want to cancel.

  • This is wicked, and would make it a lot easier!

I suppose the only thing lacking is an option to set up tourneys etc.

Is there an app for knockouts?

  • The grand plan of things is much bigger than just an iphone app. Hopefully at some point, I'll learn to develop for Android (google phone etc) or someone else will step up to do it. So the app is cross platform.

The other part, for later, is something based on the Greifmasters software, which manages tournaments, and runs as a server, which the iPhone app reports to. Then goals recored on the iphone would be linked straight to the score board, etc. It's a long process, and this is just the early early stage of planning.

I want it to be fully open source, and as open to suggestions as possible, myself, and maybe some other developers in the US (e.g. Morgan) can manage the overall thing.

I will do some more docs for planning, and put them up here at some point.

  • So for an ideal of the final product, I'm looking at

A server, online running the app. With a user as an admin setting up a tournament. When a ref wants to connect to the site to referee a game, he uses the iPhone to connect by means of a QR code with the phones camera. The phone then sends it's ID to the server as a means of authentication.

Then during hte game, whenever a goal is scored, or anything happens, it's updated on the server almost (lag) instantly. Thus the big display being updated, and playing a sound etc etc.

  • Gabes, you're a hero*.

*as is Morgan... become a crime-fighting duo, you can't fail.

  • this is an awesome idea - nice one Gabes.

  • Gabes, thats awesome. Have we talked about this already, because its something I'd been thinking about a lot lately.

As a way to record games, its ideal, and youve covered most of the things Id been thinking about. What about adding fouls, at least if its a leaving the court penalty. I love being able to upload the game record directly/tweet it..

It definitely has to hook up with the Greifmasters software, over WLAN as well as whatever phone service you may not have. I think the tourneys thing is less important, because making it work out the brackets is only useful if it can post them somewhere everyone can see them. Sure, you can upload those too, but its a whole level less accessible than a big blackboard.

Oh. And not iPhone only. Android too. .

  • am i the only person who thinks this is shit?

  • If you are interested in ideas, what about the main game time interface being just a kind of notpad, with a goal and pause button, when the goal button is pressed it takes you to the players to choose who, and everytime you start a new line in the notepad bit it appends the time to the line, so you have room for a running commentary / notes... Just an idea.

  • A secondary screen for recording the goal is a really good idea, so we can also have 'foul' screen, even connecting the perpetrator of the foul with the victim(s)!

  • is there time during a game for a ref to type on an iphone screen, they are fairly awkward and the ref needs eyes on the game.

  • +1

  • I don't think we should expect too much from this.

    Key features imo
    -Timer with pause for timeouts
    -Scores with names and times
    -golden goal function

    Awesome possiblities
    -upload to twitter/online place

    problems
-not everyone has an iphone or android

i think recording fouls is a bit much, i want this app as soon as possible as it is awesome, so no point delaying with features that are not essential. imo

  • +1

That's what I'm aiming at initially, the fully fledged product is a long way off yet. Expect to see a beta in a month or so.

  • Typing before the game to input team/player names is a great idea though... then just use in-game as needed (and fire off to twitter/lbp).

  • Yep, and teams will be saved, so if you have them already, you can use the saved team.

  • How about team logos/details nabbed from an online database? (Could add some other details too?)

  • don't need logos on the phone, but for the main display app (big screen, laptop etc) sure.

  • Great work Gabes.

  • Will it be compatible with this?

  • problems

there's usually one or two at each match though, graphical phones are getting cheaper and more common, considering how many people have them already...

And the foul option should be basically the same as the goal option, so shouldn't slow the implementation of this that much...

  • Will it be compatible with this?

Yes Dan, you just use this interface:

  • And then send the scores to this? Good call.

  • Sounds like you'll need an administrator of some kind to input scores as they happen...
