That's really shitty, man. Glad to hear it was insured but still... Fuckers.

I normally dislike the wide angle aspect, but I reckon you got it spot on in those set!

Need to raise some funds, anybody interested in a cheap but worn looking D7000? 20,500 actuations. Hasn't been dropped or anything, just had it in a handlebar bag over summer and it wore the edges down without me noticing. It works perfectly except the aperture coupling lever is snapped, you can just see it around the mount. It basically means metering with old lenses is out. Got the original gold box and all the other gubbins, I'll throw in the IR remote too.
£200? They seem to sell for about £350-4 on ebay.

Will need a fast, auto focussing Nikon 50mm lens next year.
Been reading a lot about the new G lenses; very tempted by the 50/1.4, though they say focus is slow.
So I tried both the 1.4G and the 1.8G in a shop today, - 1.4 was so slow I thought it's broken, 1.8 was a bit better, but still pretty disappointing (like - noticeably slower than the Canon 85/1.8 I had with me). Meh.Does anybody on here have comparison between the new G's, and the old (screw-type focus) AF-S's?

Screw type is faster, generally.
Why the switch? Also, are you going full frame?

Yea, to make it short I want / need a big, tough camera, and since I always loved shooting the D3 from work I'm going to get my own soon I hope (Canon 1D whatevers not being an alternative, as Nikon fits my hands much better, though if it was just about the lenses I'd get a Canon)..

There's always the 58mm 1.4 or sigma art 50mm.
-
• #8435
Haha, yeah.. the 58mm is almost 2k !
Sigma "art" (L-O-L) is apparently quite nice in some aspects, but manual focus (also Sigma just sucks). -
• #8436
Its not manual focus... It does have a daft name though.

Its not manual focus
Oh shit, my bad. Must have misread something somewhere.
I actually stopped looking into this when I saw how a) big and b) expensive this is for a 50mm prime - thinking the Nikons will be superior (and cheaper!) anyway, as well as smaller and better looking : ]
So maybe it's going to be old-school screw type again! -

Actually I tested the G ones on a D750, not on a D3, but I'm pretty sure this won't matter as the slowness comes from the lenses SWM motor?

sigma art 50mm
..actualy I just now found out about another (non-"art") Sigma, the 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM EX,
which indeed is interesting.. -

If it's any help, I've recently swapped my old af-s 85mm f1.8 to a new G 85mm f1.8. Loving it. Sharper and lighter. Can't say I've noticed if the focusing is slower or faster, but that maybe cause the 750 is great with the focus, though my old 700 was no slouch either.

Thanks, though that does not really help much

^ Nice. think thats the first photo by you with people, that I've seen.
So are you getting one of those monster D3/4 bodies? -
• #8446
I'm not sure what to do about a standard Nikon lens too, was looking at the 35mm 1.4 Sigma but it's six hundred notes.
I've got a really crap old 50mm at the minute but that's pretty pointless with the D800 I just got. Someone I know is using old manual lenses with his D810, are any of them that good?
-
• #8447
Some old Zeiss are good but that D800 will expose any shortcomings. voigtländer 40mm f2 is nice but manual focus.
-
• #8448
Don't dismiss all old lenses - some of them are VERY good
iirc Nikon mount isn't easily adaptable due to the film/sensor flange distance - but Nikon have produced some very good lenses over the years.

My f3.5 55m ais macro is fucking lovely. Amazing colours and sharp as you like. And it was £60.

Was gonna suggest macros... Not fast but good IQ.
Thanks all. Hopefully insurance should cover it all.
