G11 is very good, but still only has standard compact sensor.
MrSmyth I thought you meant the XZ-1. Looks good on paper. I'd always have a good play with an Olympus first though, I couldn't get on with the E-620 I used to have and had a good play with the Pen and the ergonomics were shit.

Painfully expensive, wherever you buy it!

I know :( But I figure as a work investment it would pay off in a job or two.. Toying with flogging some old 35mm equipment. Not all mind. But I have a couple of gorgeous rangefinder lenses I just never use and which has only ever been a hobby for me.
The video is the clincher as it would be perfect for some of the filming I do.

it's not painfully expensive for what it can do.
if anything it's a bargain. -

Giving some srs thought to buying a DSLR. Anyone know any good deals? Looking potentially at a 5DMK2, possibly on a piss-take of a repayment scheme at about 2 pence a month for the rest of my life.
Wait to see what Nikon comes out with in the next month or two. A new full-frame body is highly anticipated.

I've lived on rumours for ages - reckon it might be time to bite the bullet rather than just renting :)

Well depending on how much you want to spend, you can pick up a used D300 or 50D for between £550 and £650 - both are a lot of camera for your buck...

elinchrom skyports.
+1 Using some on a shoot right now.
To the digital converter on the previous page, check out Ricoh cameras. Bloody brilliant. GR3 I think.

Pocket Wizard setups are fucking expensive. Does anyone have any experience with eBay radio slaves? I have been tempted to try them for a while but have heard a lot of different things about their reliability.
I've got some cheap ebay radio slaves you can have for very cheap. I'm getting rid of them as I hardly ever use them, pm me for more.

Thanks chaps, some good suggestions here which have got me thinking. Looks like what I really need is something like the Pen EP2, to give me the comparable functionality, size and simplicity as the Voigtlander Bessa L. These are £850 for kit with the viewfinder and 17mm lens.
However, being a little bit skint, I will probably opt for a little pocketable XZ-1, a Lumix GF1 or even the Sony NES-5 which a pal might be able to get me a deal on.
The hard questions long term are whether I sell my cherished film cameras. What I have been doing in recent years is developing B&W myself and scanning the negs at home. This may sound like lunacy, but film cameras have worked for me for a long time and I'm loath to give up their intuitive ways.

I wouldn't give up film, I need both in my life!
I would advise against the Pen Olly/N3lson, I looked into the EP-1/2 and the GF1 before going for the GF1. I didn't like the ergonomics of the Pen but it's also much slower to focus than the GF1. Plus the Panny lenses are much better (their pancake is sharper and faster), so the in body stabilisation isn't needed unless you're going to use an adapter and older lenses. The screen is also way superior on the GF1, plus it has a built in flash. And the raw is sharper and has more detail than the output from the Pen.
You get the picture... Suffice to say I wouldn't worry about not being able to afford the Pen, I really think the GF1 is a better camera.

Have a look at the Panasonic GF2, which has just come out; I believe Jacobs have a few in stock. Slightly smaller than the GF1, and comes with a 28mm (equivalent) lens for £470.

But... it has inferior manual controls to the GF1 and a touch screen. It's aimed very squarely at consumers, rather than 'prosumers' (I hate that word but it does sum the market up). Size difference is marginal too and the pancake's only f/2.5, not f/1.7. If you're stepping up from a point and shoot and don't really know what you're doing it might make sense, but otherwise I can't see why anyone would go for it over the GF1.

The memory card release button has just gone on my Canon EOS. Any recommendations of somewhere to get it fixed? Old St. way would be handy.

My G9 is totally dead now (design/manufacturing fault where 2 screws come undone and wreak havoc)
Fucksake, no money for a new camera either.

Take it to a repair shop?
Anyone recommend one? -
• #421
Pretty sure it's not worth repairing, I might drop it and claim it on my contents insurance.

Anyone recommend one?Sendean Cameras in Clerkenwell. I get all my kit repaired there; not super cheap, but very recommended.

Cheers hinius, will give it a look.
Might be more interested in a cheap one though since hopefully it's a small issue. Any other recommendations? -

The G9 lives!
Not sure if I've fixed the original problem of the battery draining super quickly but at least it's no worse off than before I took it apart.

Been looking at review/previews of this over the past couple of days, must say i'm rather intrigued, i'd quite like to have something that'd fit in my pocket rather than lugging my 40D/grip/flash/lenses about in my bag!
Useful site - cheers!
