  • Definitely liking the X100!

  • Nice! Ordering a 6d with 40mm STM on Friday... Fuck it, you only live once.

  • I had a go with a GR today.. Quality is fantastic and it feels just as well made as my GR1s. I want one.

  • d7000

  • ^ Amazing. Did you try the heads?

  • Genuinenly would have but I was only there for about 90 seconds.

    6D full frame? Well jealous

  • Yeh, my current camera was a hand-me-down and although its great, its was now or never. It might even pay itself off one day...

  • Wouldn't feel bad, would upgrade my D7000 if I could.

Big viewfinder is just too good

  • Like that a lot MacReady, very nice.

The GR looks fantastic and I kind of really want one but I have a GRDIII and a GR1v so it's just consumerist lust on my part. I can hardly believe it's barely any bigger, I'll have to at least try one out some time, somehow.

  • That beetle shot is brilliant, where is that?

    ...

Cheers. It's at the US military base / airfield at Bitburg - Germany for Das Drag Day.

    Here's another 3 I liked myself:

  • That 40mm lens looks lovely.

Not sure if it would be too close to my 35mm to warrent it but just look at the size!

  • Also quick question.

Thinking about going back to Flickr for all my pictures - both snaps and 'proper' photos.

Any reasons why I should avoid flickr or alternatives?

  • The shit interface that is more about blue and pink than your photos? The fact that they've fucked it up once, kind of sorted it out, but may very well fuck it up again.

How about tumblr? Or a wordpress site where you have full control of your photos?

  • Tumblr was an option but I don't know about image rights.

  • Flickr is fine, they've been slowly fixing bits of it and its pretty clean. Now that whatsherface from google is running yahoo, they seem to be giving it some more love.

  • From here: http://www.tumblr.com/policy/en/terms_of_service

"Subscribers retain ownership of all intellectual property rights in their Subscriber Content, and Tumblr and/or third parties retain ownership of all intellectual property rights in all Content other than Subscriber Content."

Looks like you'd still own your images, but gives Tumblr the rights to use them within tumblr? Anyone speaking legalese that can verify?

  • I like wordpress and setup a gallery of images for each group of photos

  • Anyone have the Sony Cyber-shot full frame compact?

  • bugger it went with tumblr. Watch this space.

  • Anyone have the Sony Cyber-shot full frame compact?

    well jell if so

  • I'm finding Google+ pretty good for images... not much else but good for hosting galleries.

  • +1 (arf). Seriously though it's a joy to use for uploading pictures, so simple and quick, and it just presents photos in a really nice way - helping them fit together on the page etc. And has a built in image editor if you quickly need to tweak something.

Nobody has mentioned the fee for Flickr if you want to get the most out of it >>>>>>

The only benefit I can see with Flickr really over Google+ (or whatever) is the fact it's such an established photo site, which means if you tag appropriately more people will look at your images. Which, if that's what you're after, can be handy. I've sold pictures on buy out terms to big corporates through Flickr and that's paid for camera equipment in the past, ta very much. That's not going to happen with Google+

I really fancy one of those Ricohs as although I love my GF1 + pancake, I can't fit it in my jersey pocket, and I like to travel light for rides.

Is the GR better in any way than the IV? Based on the glass it seems not, I'd much rather have f/1.9 than f/2.8, obviously.

  • Oh ok, I see:

The Ricoh uses a 28mm equivalent F2.8 lens - an apparent step down from the F1.9 lens offered on the GRD IV but, as a result of the much larger sensor, actually effectively two stops more capable in terms of depth-of-field control and light-gathering capability.

  • The larger sensor is very worthwhile, F/2.8 is still plenty fast to be honest, and in theory the larger sensor of the newer Ricoh should have less noise at high ISO.

If you're looking for a great compact that have a good sized sensor, zoom and actually have some depth of field, the Sony RX100 might fit your bill.
