  • Has anybody got any experience of the Ricoh GXR (28/50) or Ricoh GRD IV? I primarily like to skulk around taking discreet pictures and not sure whether to go for better IQ with the larger body GXR or stealth with GRD...

  • That look huge.

  • It was a monster

  • Really good stuff. Lot's of post?

  • Nah not really, I have preset in Silver Efex that made a while ago to replicate how my wet prints from Tri-X devved in R-09 look.

I think the 3 top ones were just given that preset and the last one was that then some extra contrast.

  • Never heard of Silver Efex, looks interesting

  • Silver efex is great, as are those photos MV.

  • Yeah it's a pretty amazing bit of software.

Pretty basic in some ways but it just does what you need it to and no extra fluff.

  • MV, no 2 is too sick. Good work.

  • What does Silver Efex offer that something like Lightroom doesn't?

I have to admit to not being fully satisfied with the way most of my attempts at B&W processing come out in lightroom (3) but I had always put that down to my incompetence rather than Lightroom being somehow deficient?

  • I don't know that it does anything LR3 etc don't do but it just does it easily and well.

Like grain, you could get the same effect in LR or photoshop but it'd take time and effort, Silver Efex grain just looks nice straight away.

There's dodge and burn tools that work much more like dodging and burning really does than the same tools in Photoshop.

    Stuff like that.

  • agree with ewanmac, spent hours in LR3 trying to make a good shot look decent in bw but never really nailed it. Would love to give Silver Efex pro a try

  • *poor quality.
    *

  • wow.

  • That's fantastic. Really really good.

Took some balls to take that too.

  • *poor quality.

Really want to shoot something like this, but I don't know how to begin to even get to places like this

  • Climbing over a fence would be a good place to start.

  • Wearing Lo-Vis clothing ?

  • what / where is that, by the way?
