  • ^^ That's defintely an improvement, however the current X100 of mine seemed to do exactly what I want it to do, I don't feel hindrance by it to need the X100s.

Fisheyes are great fun, but ultimately made normal 28mm lens felt rather cramped and hard enough to get everything in it when you get used to the fisheyes.

  • 28 is probably about as wide as I'd like to go. It can even be put to use for portraits. Anything wider on a prime and you'll start to feel limited.

  • I now really want a 35mm... Need to get some monies together... Or buy more scratch cards.
What does everyone think about fisheyes?

You seem to have the same camera lusts as me.

I've got a 20d with a 35mm f2 and a peleng fisheye. I love this set up and I occasionally take some half decent photos with it.

    The peleng - http://www.peleng8.com/
can be found for less than £200 and gives a near diagonal fisheye on a crop sensor. It weighs a ton though. The zenitar is another option http://www.kenrockwell.com/zenit/zenitar-16mm.htm but is diagonal on a full frame so you won't get a full fisheye on a crop sensor. Still very wide and lighter than the peleng (I think).

  • The Samyang fisheye is fun.

  • @harold you pretty much have the set up I'm after! Very jealous... What kinda photography do you do most?

Couldn't agree more with skunkworks. I'm hoping to get one after a 30 or 35mm. It's super cheap at 200 squids and nicely rectangular on a crop sensor. Dang, I could have all the lenses on my list if I hadn't built my last bike. :(

  • It's a constant battle between bike bits, camera bits, computer bits and keeping the wife happy.

  • Could always make your own. Here's mine, it's the second one I've made:

Made usign a wide angle door viewer. You can get them on ebay, or from online locksmiths for about £5.

It's made to fit onto the outside of the zoom lens of my Canon Powershot. Produces images like this:

  • And one taken with the first one i made

  • I can't see anything about it that make me want to sell my X100 for the X100s IMO.

The new X20 however look to be a great improvement over the original X10 (datas display on viewfinder), price appear to be £600, but I'm hoping it'll be £500 in a couple weeks or month.

Was thinking of getting a X10 as they are good value @ c.£300. However i might wait and get the X20 as the hands on reviews I've read from CES look good

Amateurpornographer are saying it will be c.£499 when it reaches the shops

  • Anyone have any actual photos to post?

  • I'd have loved to get the X10 but not having a viewfinder with data displayed is a major drawback as I tend to shoot from the viewfinder and not rely on the LCD (also useful to save battery).

Anyone have any actual photos to post?

    What do you mean photos?

These guys have got it up for pre-order @£599... http://www.wexphotographic.com/buy-fuji-finepix-x20-black-digital-camera/p1534874

They're usually pretty accurate but I hope they're wrong this time!

Just family photos really. Pictures of things that noone else would take a photo of.

A lots of shop have it pre order at £599, no rush to get one really.

They went in to administration before if you remember and came out fine - perhaps the same will happen again?

Ah, nice. haha. See, I'm trying to do some decent street photography and get some useful gear together for it... so recently I've been thinking about how best to spend the little money I have. lol

I've also played around with DIY doorviewer fisheyes. They're lots of fun :)

  • Mine's not all that good though.......

  • Since people are talking about sticking things on their lenses, and there was a call for more pics, here is some bokeh that me and the gf did over christmas.

Sort of, they gave their bank equity in the company in lieu of the debts.
They have made fuck all money and called the administrators in.
Can't see the banks raking more equity

  • Not quite a fisheye - 16mm on APS-C

    http://i.imgur.com/vGvH7.jpg

To be honest, I don't get a lot of shots out of it that I like, mainly because of the distortion.

  • 16mm is something like 28mm on a cropped sensor?

  • Something like that. Though [and I will preface with with a disclaimer that I know nothing about lenses] because it is cropped rather than actually being a different focal length I think you still get more distortion that a natural 28mm lens on 35mm. So it is rare that the resulting pictures don't have a bit too much of a fisheye-ish look, just because the straight lines are all bent.

(if this is complete bollocks I apologise)

  • Fisheyes are for people who can't afford rectiliniear wide angles.

Neither rectilinear wide angles nor fisheyes should be used for "getting it all in".
