  • 5D! I've been wanting to take a dslr to paris for a while now. And if you're taking the 5D, might as well take the Sigma too.

  • Thinking about it I could take the 5D with the 35mm f2 which would keep it nice and compact and it would still be OK at night without the flash. Whereas the Sigma struggles at night time.

Although the Sigma has such flipping good quality for a small camera. When we travelled to Morocco last year I used it exclusively and it didn't miss a beat.

    Hmmm.

  • Paris is great for walking around shooting. I had my Bessa with me, about as heavy as a 5D. Brought a rucksack for when I got tired but ended up carrying it and using it all day long.

If you want to shoot street, go for the camera your fastest with. The DP1 seems to be good but a bit slow? You will be noticed with a 5D, but it'll be faster = more good shots.

Be careful about thieves though. I spoke to a french gentleman at a bar about cameras as I've just casually put mine on the bar. He told be that's a bad idea in paris, a lot of opportunist around

  • Also if I do take the Sigma I can fit it in my buffalo coat front pouch easily enough which is a plus.

Same advice from every person in every cities.

You know what to do, you're from London FFS.

  • I don't find London being anywhere near as bad as say Barcelona. I haven't had a single thing stolen here (touch wood!) but in Barcelona your barely sat at a table before some kid tries to steal your phone

  • I know I was warned the same thing in Barcelona, but common sense usually prevail.

  • Had to endure a Stag in Barcelona a while back.

Got 'jacked' by some pick pockets.

They come up behind you in a mock groin dance.

    While trying to search pockets.

I obliged with my own style.

(I tried to search their pockets)

  • Has anyone played with Perspex Mounting?

Not seen that, but I know http://www.servicepointuk.com/sp-uk/docklands can print on pretty much any material you supply them with.

  • Couple shots from New Forest

    more here as usual

Never shot trees before, quite enjoyed it. Nice challenge to get good framing and light, especially when having to keep up with 3 others without cameras...

  • I can't get enough of photos of trees, simple though they are. They are some of the most beautiful things in existence. In fact, it's precisely the simplicity that appeals to me.

  • As per the first photo, I find paths often help. I work in the forest in the tropics and when the canopy/understory is particularly dense then framing a photo that isn't a mess can be very difficult. Paths/clearings/animal trails/streams and rivers help to open it up and finding a subject to focus on helps to shift the forest into a beautiful background rather than a mess of foliage.

Snap, currently gracing my wall (print obviously)...

  • I'm thinking of buying a Sony Nex 5 for £175 with a 16mm pancake lens. About the price what do you think? and its in really good condition with the box aswell! Whats your views on this camera does anyone have one, and if so could you show me some shots as well with that lens preferably?

    Thanks!

  • flickr should have test images with that camera and lens (or any other combo for that matter)

  • Two from the halloween polo tournament a few weekends ago.

Good camera, but if you intend to buy any other lenses then bad choice as Sony has a limited and chunky choice of lenses.

Saying that, if you're sticking to a single prime lens, seems like a good deal.

  • Good price I'd say and if you can live without autofcous you can get an adapter for pretty much anything.

I used Konica lenses when I had mine. Video out of even the 3 was stunning.

  • A couple from Copenhagen the other day. Beautiful Nordic light - low, golden sun.
